Something I agree with Obama on.

Another thought…
What about dumping H.S and come up with a program that gets 18 y/o kids a bachelors degree instead of H.S. Not everyone would be able to do it I’m sure, but think of the advantage for those that could…

All I have to say is wow. I sincerely hope for your sake that you’re fucking around.

I can’t believe this actually goes on now, guess I was really in the dark. So a teacher can’t hold a student back a grade in elementary school anymore like the always used to? Instead they just force them through and dumb down the class, how is this helpful to anyone.

I still can’t get over the fact there are special aids for kindergarden kids in the normal class. Do they not do pre-testing before kindergarden to see if the kid even belongs?

It’s no wonder our education system sucks. I do agree on the parenting part though. A friend of mine teaches 3rd grade in a Buffalo Public School and some of the stories I hear from her just amaze me.

Mainstreaming does suck. But it’s certainly not a liberal issue. You should see the level of knowledge, or lack thereof, people come out of schools in the South with when they get their diploma, even compared to what the average HS graduate comes out of school in NY with. When I was going to go to University of South Carolina, the first two years of subject matter, or the first one if i went in the Honors Program, was review from what I’d covered in HS, and that was a top 50 business school. I’d certainly like to believe they’re not ALL that slow.

^ While I am certainly no fan of liberals, I do agree this problem is not solely caused by them.

They do pre-testing, but unless the kid is an extreme case they mainstream them and hope they can bring them up to speed.

And holding kids back a year in those early grades is highly discouraged because it labels them, and they carry that with them through their entire schooling.

And I’m sorry, that’s that whole liberal “can’t hurt anyone’s feelings, everyone should get a trophy” mentality. Regardless of the happy little stories we tell kids not everyone gets to grow up to be a doctor, lawyer or rocket scientist. No one wants to give up on a kid in kindergarten but you can’t hold back an entire class just because you don’t want to move one or two kids into special education. If you really want to help those kids improve the special education system so maybe they can be mainstreamed one day if they can keep up with out holding the mainstream back.

“No child left behind”

I love those people…
They watch a kid crash and burn terribly, then say, “Great job”…

Uh… NO!.. Great TRY… try again… rinse and repeat.

There should be a big sign above the front door of schools that says, “Life isn’t fair”

Would you like fry’s with your mediocrety?

:eyebrow:

Reminds me of an old Simpson’s episode when Bart got put into special ed and said to the teacher, “Ok let me get this straight, we are behind our class and we are going to catch up by going slower than they are?”

I think he meant to say fries, as is working at Burger King. But I could be wrong.

I will say these 2 things.

  1. Obama ALWAYS has an alterior motive.(Think union)
  2. Give me a voucher for the $6668.00 I just paid in school taxes so I have a choice of where to send my kid.

Correct.

  1. Think of it as your help in keeping an average education level for the society your kids are going to have to live and work in.

Assumptions are great.

Average is fine for people like me, but not my offspring :frowning:

Well it wasn’t any different at UB. I remember there was a kid in my freshmen year english class who could barely read or write at a 6th grade level.

Did he by any chance drive a Mazda 6? :rimshot:

:thankyou:
