Nah it didn’t, i’ve had a mac pro for the last 5 years but wanted this for a media center to hook up to my bravia. I believe onyx had newer software on it but removed the hard drives, he gave me a copy of windows xp. But yeah my windows 7 disc is legit i got it right at UB micro. I haven’t gotten far enough in the process to enter the serial code so at least im still okay in that regard. $50 isn’t a big deal it just sucks i bought a…
Even running BF3, Google Chrome, and teamspeak I wasn’t hitting 40°C. I just cleaned the CPU off, and reapplied thermal paste too while rerouting some cables. We’re just trying to eliminate all possible culprits. I’m guessing maybe that BIOS doesn’t like your HDD. It’s somewhat common in laptops where they won’t read 7200RPM drives only 5400 or below.
Although if you got that far in a Windows 7 install it was reading and writing to the HDD. Try plugging in only the bare minimum components and installing?
Not sure if you will understand this but you might need to put a jumper on the hard drive to get it to the old SATA 1.5 speed. If the board is only good for SATA 1.5 you will definitely need to jumper it. Usually the mfgr includes a couple of them with the drive.
This is great advice I’m starting to think this is the issue, what is the model of the computer and what not I think I missed it and is the 1tb Sata? It says scsi in the bios?
Progrocker you kno your shit no need to call you out lol, when someone posts a read out of a old CPU chart temps that’s just fucked up lol
Maybe I’ll have to try that… All I wanted this thing was for a media center, im going to have a weeks worth of time into this thing by the end lol. I may be better off on returning the hd and selling the pc. Someone with the right means could prob have it going in a day.
Holy crap man, this thing is turning into a pain! Like I said, if it’s a brick I’ll give you your $50 back.
I was brain storming with him the other day and though about an HD compatibility issue.
Definitely check this. I just remembered by reading Jon’s post that when I bought a 2nd drive for this PC at first it didn’t work. I needed to switch a jumper to lower it’s speed and then the drive worked fine.

Here are the two drives I’ve had in this PC. The original is on the right, the one I added is on the left. You can read on the drive I added that there is a jumper block for limiting the speed. If your new drive doesn’t have the ability to do this it might be incompatible.
I see the jumper block to the right of the sata connectors. I don’t have the same drive to look but there’s most likely a jumper to slow the bus speed.
