SPL vs Megan Racing.

This past week, I have ordered a set of HSD coilovers for my S13 through a good buddy of mine, which recommended them to me. He always recommends buying the better quality product over the “best bang for buck” which I appreciate. In the next few months, I’m looking to freshen up and re-do most, if not, all of my suspension arms. He recommended SPL suspension parts, for their quality. I don’t mind paying for quality, especially if it’s something that holds up my car! lol. So I was looking at SPL, and realized they did not make ALL the arms/parts (I’m doing the front-end as well) I seen that Megan makes most of the parts I would like to replace, but a lot of people, and my buddy, say that the difference between the two brands are HUGE. I do want to get SPL, and probably will taking his advice, but why is the price difference so big? If I ever got Megan RLCA’s, would they really suck that much? Seems like people are really hating on Megan, ALOT. I really hate mis-matching parts everywhere, but I guess it’s unavoidable here. So I’d like to know why I’m paying almost 150% more for SPL, rather than Megan. Any input in appreciated! Thanks in advance

SPL uses some of the best components available and arguably has the most well-designed arms as well.

I agree that SPL is a bit pricey based on what kind of cars the parts are for but if you base it on manufacturing costs their products are very well priced.

Megan is just off-shore poo thrown together with the holes in the right place to fit the car.

imo if it is not a moving part then off shore poo with holes in the right place works just fine. But your asking about a rlca with a ball joint so I would go SPL/equivalent.

Lmao! “Poo with holes” I will be getting SPL anyways  I can cheap out on aesthetics and stuff like that, not on suspension. Does anyone recommend any RLCA’s? I would like to replace the stock unit with solid mounts. Same with the front Control arm. Seeing as how SPL stopped making them.

spl is top notch. i got everything in the rear and front from spl for the s14. it is the new titanium line up and it has been a night and day difference. one thing i suggest you get also is the brake air deflectors. there only $60 and they help with cooling your rotters
helps a bit during an intense touge battle session at Shannonville

also forgot to mention if your looking for front control arms and rear lower control arms that spl dose not make, nismo has a new line and i am getting them next to complete the suspension setup. they come with new ball joints and bushings and improve handling by alot from 20 + year old ball joints.

Instead of spending 400+ on brand new front control arms, why not just have moog ball joints and bushings pressed in for half as much.

guess you got a good point there. i’m just all about changing every single part to the last bushing arm, and every other part you can think of from engine components to drive-train to brakes, exterior and interior from old oem to new top of the line performance.

just costs a bitch and a half and i can’t even afford just the one bitch lol.

Yeah, I’m the same way. I would like to eventually replace it all. But if my stock arms are good, I would just get new bushings pressed in. I’d like to get everything as solid as possible, I wont be driving the car on the road too too much, so solid mounts, and all bushings will be done.

yes you’re better off just refreshing LCA’s with new bushings.

i dont understand why guys think they need that much adjustability on a street car… if your car is so low that you need FLCA’s to correct your front suspension then you clearly dont care about handling anyways… otherwise you’d just raise the car.

Sasha won Ontario GT Class in his S14 with just my multi-link arms and OEM LCA’s front and rear… that’s all you need to know.

That’s true Bing! Maybe I just wanna look baller :frowning: lmao. I’ll take that into consideration

If you still want to do fronts, Powered By Max has what you need…

Ok, sweet! Yeah, I ordered SPL rear upper control arms, rear toe rods, rear traction rods, and tension rods

China doesn’t automatically mean crap, qa1 rodends are made in china, wilwood calipers are made in china, among other things considered quality…

From what I can tell, hsd, stance, powertrix, kts, and a few other coilovers are made or at least sourced from the same overseas supplier – the zealotry regarding brand is uninformed, each has good models, and each has cheap models

The main failings of chinese brand kits is in fit/finish not being as good or consistent to a respected name brand that won’t sell defectives, and also the crap hardware they ship with, low grade nuts that strip, rodends that wear out quickly etc… luckily the hardware can usually be replaced with better ones as needed

^^^ while this is true it’s more fun to generalize. kind of like racism…

Yes I frequently refer to coilover makes as the “bronze team” or “green team”, give it a sense of sport

tein mono flex all the way with the edfc

In other news, a friend has bent powered by max parts for his genesis, twisted his control arm, if anyone thinks pbm is the gold standard… cough

^ did he bend them making friends with a curb?

No his wheels are way too expensive to risk that hah

I dont have anything good to say about PBM arms.
