SR + Air conditioning fitment issues

Well, this may or may not turn out to be a problem, but as I was bolting the AC compressor back onto the SR, I realized that the line coming from the air conditioning compressor goes right in front of the turbo inlet. I took off the elbow that leads to the turbo, making it possible to bolt on the AC compressor… but I am worried that the air filter wont be able to fit onto the turbo. I have an HKS intake on the way.

Has anyone else with an SR and air conditioning run into this problem?

I don’t know of any SR’s in the club running AC. Most remove it to save weight. I would think the solution might involve a custom AC line.

Hm… really. Well thats not a problem, I dont mind losing the AC. Doesnt it have to be drained profesionally, to avoid poisoning myself? …cause I do have a problem with poisoning.

Depending on how the intake is put together, I may be able to modify that too. The only issue would be not restricting air flow.

If anyone has kept AC with an SR, Id like to hear about it.

If you have pulled your KA, I’m pretty sure you have either discharged
your system, burned yourself with the refrigerant, or it was discharged
before you began (as is the case the majority of the time since 240s A/C
doesn’t even work).

If you want to make it work on your SR, you are going to have to fix
whatever was leaking in the system before that caused your refrigerant
to discharge itself, make some custom lines, have the system checked for
leaks, and fill it with coolant before it will work. All that trouble, and
expense is simply not worth it. You are looking at over $800 just to check
leaks and fill the system as I was quoted in the summer. Thats why I said
forget it. Downpipe and exhaust, or A/C? Not a hard choice.

Its there and working, the refrigerant is definatly still in the system. It seemed much easier just to keep the compressor in, and bolt it to the SR but I didnt forsee the problem with the line blocking the intake.

If someone else has already dealt with this problem and found a working solution, that would be ideal. Otherwise Ill either modify the intake, or just have an AC shop remove the AC altogether.

Thanks for the replies guys.

hey jordan, if you can get a picture of the situation, maybe we can help find a solution.

My understanding was that you unbolt the KA conpressor from the block and dont touch the lines, and leave it to the side, then bolt it back up to the sr you may need a custom bracket.

Pictures worth 1000 words

No, the KA compressor bolts right up to the SR. Actually I think it should be alright, and I dont know why I didnt think of this before, but I believe the metal elbow is only needed for the stock intake. It looks to me like the HKS intake will bolt directly onto the turbo with the elbow removed, and should clear the AC line.

If it doesnt, there’ll be some pics up but I think it will be alright.
