lol! I got a sr engine that was stoped for more than one year and the previous owner didn’t put any oil into it, so now i discovery that the engine is really dry and i turn the cranck and it’s making a weird noise like it is grinding, i put some oil from the spark plugs holls and it still making the noise, should i open the top to the bottw to make sure the pistons are ok, or it is normal for the time that is without oil!?
Thanks!
you poured oil into the combustion chamber?
is your car spitting out black smoke now?
one more thing…
did u install the motor or not? if your turning the crank by hand and hearing this ‘grinding’ noise, then thats the pistons, and its fine for the most part.
obvisously with no oil, the pistons will make a slight grinding noise as theres friction up against the cylinder walls.
No it’s not installed yet, i don’t wanna do that for the 4th time!lol!
That is why i am asking about it before install it, and i opened the cover and put some oil straight to the spark plugs holls and some in the top of the cams too! I know the pistons should do some noise but is this a loud one?
So should i install it or see the pistons before i install?
Thanks man!
Yes you did the right thing you should put in a little bit in the spark plug holes (to oil the upper rings) and the proper amount into the crankcase and all over the cams obviously. Do that, spin the motor by hand a few times in both directions, change the oil, do it again. Than change the oil again and do a compression test. A loud grinding noise might mean rust might mean rebuild time. Compression test after a few good oil changes and lubrication is the key.
Hope it helps.
Good luck.
Vlad.
Thanks i’ll do it!
since the motor isn’t in the car yet I dont see a point in doing an oil change since its not even running and he’s only spinning it by hand which is just barly turning the motor over. I don’t think turning it by hand generates enough rpm’s to hear an internal engine noise like what your describing unless the motor is completely bone dry or you have corrosion on the cylinder walls. Just make sure it turns over nice and smooth. Try listening exactely where its coming from, maybe its the power steering pump, alt, waterpump thats making the noise?
whered you get this sr?
Ye man you are right i have to really check it right can be a lot of stuff! good one! and i got it from a guy that had it for his old corolla but in the end it doesn’t fit in his car so i got 2 engines from him!
2 engines? whats the other one?
he got 2 sr’s but one of them the guy let drop and the block is messed good for parts
Other sr but with the block cracked! Been honest with a hand size hole!lol!
I have a top end for sale if anyone wants it, plus auto tranny, and more, but this is not the place to post it!lol!
prime the oil pump from the turbo return line…put power to the starter and crank it over properly while its on the floor, do a compression test, then install the motor…
Just cuz the motors sitting without oil it doesnt mean that its damaged…
its a new law that used motors from anywhere in the world must not be shipped with oil anymore…You will slowly see this more and more during 2007, the law was just passed in september 2006 by canada customs.
