Sr20 help, possibly alternator

my car died this past weekend cause my bat drained out and it didnt seeem like my alternator was working(bat new). i swapped my stock alternator with the Ka one, drilled, wired, grounded it and mounted it. Now when i started it it was working all good, charging the battery too. now here comes the problem, i ran the car for about 10 mins starting it back up and off and everything was good. driving out of my works bay the cars accesories died but the car was stil running. i shut it off and when i turned the key to acces nothing was coming(fuses were fine) on but i could hear my fuel pump turn on so i started the car and nothing was stil on EVEN my RPM needle was stil at 0 when the car was running. so i tapped the gas just a bit and everything turned and my rpm needle jumped and leveled off at idle(idle is perfect)…but with that happening i checked the charge again when the car ws running and it wasnt charging as good, almost none. so i started driving home and about 15km i could smell something burning and noticed my rpms drop at idle until i rev the engine and kept it reved at around 2000. so about a few blocks from home my car started jercking at high rpms cause no power but this time my bat light never came on and my car shut off completely. …i know its long but any suggestions haha…

by the way this is already my second rebuilt alternator within two days and same shit happened.

my brother is saying something is shorting out in the car, something not grounded?..
Any suggestions

Get some audio cable and ground the shit out of your car. Also check the cable that runs from the battery to the alternator. Mine was really frayed and I had similar troubles as you.

When I took the alternator off the cable literally fell apart in my hands. Put a new wire in and it was all fine.

Well whoever is changing an alternator in an sr20 make sure you match the fuse with the same amp as the alternator is. So much for just drilling a whole in the mount being the ONLY mod that i heard needs to be done  . Oh and there are no Female fuses(80amp)like the one you need so you may need to rewire into a male one like i did …anyways…fixed and working. Thanks for the reply

Unless you put in a quest alternator there is no way you are charging over 70 amps, even quests have a 75 amp alt fuse.

Even an S14a alternator with fog lights is 70 amps
S14’s are 65
S13’s are 60

I am running the S14a one and my fuse is perfectly fine. Sounds like you have bigger problems

call partsource, they told me 91 240sx alternators put out 80 amps…my stock fuse was for 75amp…i have no more issues after replacing the fuse to an 80amp…

As you can see its burnt on the top…so you can say what you want but thats what my car had.
