sr20 oil what do you run

I did a search and I was surprised not to find a thread about this already.

I’m currently running castrol syntec 10 30 and a mobile 1 filter.

I did a google search and saw that a lot of people are running heavier oils. 10 -40’s or 15 -50s.

What do you run?

0-40 mobil

5-40 Motul 8100 x-cess for daily, 5-40 Motul 300V for track.

Shits expensive, but awesome.

I run 10w-30 royal purple with a Nissan filter.

Amsoil Z-Rod, High Zinc & Phosphorous…10w30 w/ Power Enterprise Filter, currently K&N right now.

Shaeffers or Motul are definitely the next oils I’m looking to probably switch to other than what I’m running now.

Kirkland Olive Oil

weight?

^ extra virgin??

Fat boy heavy

^lol gotta get me some of that… sounds EXPENSIVE

will be 10w-30 royal purple with next oil change

15w40 rotella t.

redline 10w30 with nissan filter

nissan filter, Ams oil 5w30 OE, its very affordable and works great if you change often which I prefer rather than expensive oils that are suppose last longer.

Whats your reason for running a thicker oil? Is it a track car or a daily driver? Seeing high oil consumption?

royal purple 10w30 with K&N Filiter

A lot of US guys swear on this stuff.

It’s a diesel oil so it also has a lot of additives = good.

Yeah I noticed that on the US forms guys were running thicker but I figured it was because of the higher ambient temps. I know fsm says at 4 3250rpm oil pressure should be at 57psi. I find my oil pressure starts to drop from that reading once I’m above 180F. Once its up to 200F I cruise at just above 50psi at 3250. I usually turn my fan on the oil cooler at that temp to bring it back down. I was wondering if people run heavier oils to counter the higher temp pressure drop when not using an oil cooler.

Go by the fsm for the SR, it clearly shows a nice range of oil weights… it’s a good thing using a thicker oil in really hot ambient temps but I think 10w30 is fine all round. If I were to choose, I’d go for a 10w40… the last number being the most important since that’s the weight at operating temperature.

I’ll try a 10 40 next oil change mid summer. I’ll see how much higher my oil temp can go and still maintain 57 at 3250.

Am I the only one that Runs Castrol non synthetic oil? Wtf, son.
