if your going to use a hicas pump without hicas you need to take apart the pump and remove the impeller for the rear lines, then seal the hole and put the pump back together.
Okay great… thanks for the info!
Does anyone know thou whether a sohc, dohc or hicas pump will work on a SR ?
I want to drop in my motor late this week or this coming weekend and dont really wan to go without Power Steering…
Thanks
Jeff
hey man, there’s lots of information on fresh-alloy.com
apparently any KA pump will work with the SR swap but only the 91+ P/S lines will fit with no modification.
i’m also in the process of doing the swap but with all SR P/S components (from clip to '89)… still haven’t quite examined how it will all line up, but i understand it’s all pretty obvious… :fingersx:
keep us updated on anything you learn in the process.
i did this and it works well
i heard the ka pump dosent line up bit dont quote me
Found this write up on www.240sxforums.com
Its for using a SR Hicas pump I guess which is different from the KA Hicas pump…
Here is a walkthrough with pics for those who are visual lerners.
If you have a Hicas pump on your SR motor then when you go to put the DOHC ps/ lines and pump in, the DOHC bracket for the pump wont line up. The HICAS and non HICAS brackets are diffrent. So what you will need to do is to modify the HICAS pump to work as a non HICAS pump.
Step one is to take off the 5 bolts on the back of the pump (opposite side of pully) and pull off the rear section as shown in this picture:
After doing this you will see 10 small slots that contain small square pieces of metal.:
What you need to do is remove all of these small square pieces.
This is what it looks like when they are all removed:
Then you need to put the rear section back in just like you took it out:
There is one last thing that you need to do. you need to get a bolt or something and plug the back hole that is facing you in the above picture and JB weld it in or somthing so it won’t leak. Make sure It is in there good otherwise it will leak.
Thats it! thats all you need to do to use your HICAS pump with your SR motor!
Good luck!
I inspected the KA Power Steering pump today while I was at work quickly and other then the pulley looking bigger I couldn’t tell much else
“haven’t pulled my KA yet… lol”
But the Bracket at the top of the long bolt etc… looks exactly the same as the mount on the SR so as long as it sits I guess I will drill and tap the Bracket and make new holes so I can use my KA pump…
From all the info I’m finding the only problem with using a KA or Hicas pump etc… is that each have their own Bracket so the mounting holes just wont line up ?
So I guess I’m left making something…
