hicas... forced into KA-T??

ok so heres the scoop… i just changed my suspension and went to bring the car for an alignment. but the guy said that the rear tie rods for my hicas car are shot… (the hicas doesn’t even work and i don’t want it)… So i went to look for a set of tie rod ends and at the dealership its pushing over 600 for inner and outer on each side… so i started looking into eliminators. which is all well and good but even for the bar you need tie rod ends… Then i looked into a Non-hicas sub-frame this is when i learned that my plans of doing an SR were possibly ended because you need a rare ps pump and lines for the SR… im lost on my options here. and i’ve searched all here and nico… just not enough info on hicas…

so im turning to you guys… i need some help. maybe you know someone that was in the same situation or even someone i can contact to get this sorted out…

thanks for the help in advance.

Nick

Just use the PS pump that comes with the SR, I don’t get the problem.

Not sure who told you that you require a special PS pump for the SR (or even lines for that matter) but FYI… DOHC KA pumps (whether non hicas or hicas) are the exact same as the SR pumps. All you need to do is swap over the little bracket + Pulley and your done.

Now… If you have a SOHC (89-90) then the PS lines are on the wrong side of the vehicle so you either need to bend them over to the other side or get new lines made. But either way… its extremely simple so no special parts will be required.

yea i had just read u needed a hicas powersteering pump from an sr… but apparently not. so im thinkin im going to go with a non hicas subframe and just get rid of it all together…that’ll work a little bit better i think…

thanks very much for all your help…

i have a hicas pump on my sr all i did was take it apart take the lil fins out so the rear doesnt build pressure. fine a bolt to fit it and done. mint works great.

also i have a non hicas sud frame if u want 50 beans

the rear outer tierod ends are just metal bars. You need the rear axle housing ball joints that attach to the rear tie rod end. I just got them from nissan, they are $67 each.
