SR Hicas to non-Hicas?

I have an '89 that does not have hicas, but my SR pump has Hicas. Can I still use the SR pump by blocking (threading) the second line in the pump?

Or do I need to get a single line pump?

I would get a Non-Hicas pump. I’ve heard of people modifying the Hicas pump to work however.

Also, I don’t think you can just block the hole.

hrm… i would end up needing a SR HICAS pump for my swap.

how much would you part with it for?

i’m still debating on whether I should still use HICAS with my SR, powersteering in the front wheels only, or if i should just plainly go back to standard steering

When i took out my HICAS, i just plumbed the pressure line that comes out of the pump and normally goes to the HICAS directly in to the return line, that means it just recirculates fluid from that section of the pump. Remember its only high pressure if it has no where to go. So this method puts much less strain on the pump than simply plugging the hole where the line comes out.

thanks for the tip. how much dot3 did you leave in the fluid reservoir?

They have a HICAS SR20DET model?

I just filled the reovoir until it was on the MAX line then i monitored it after i started the car and topped it up again.

yes

i have a HICAS pump for sale if your looking for one

I also have a HICAS pump with bracket, I am looking to trade for a Non-Hicas model

I’m in Oakville.

On a side note, my Hicas line is leaking. If I just by-pass the Hicas lines the rear steering columb is suposed to lock right?

hmm on my car i have a hicas pump, but i have a hicas lockout bar on the back. The fluid linr to the hicas is just blocked by a bolt, I might want to try out your idea tho, it sounds good.
The steering is a little bit stiffer with the line blocked off aswell.

mike… what hicas lockout bar did you use?

also was it hard to install or did you have someone install it for you?
