does anyone know if it is possible to swap the sr20det into the fd?
it is, but why? you just need to custom fab the mounts
sr20 is more dependable than 13b or 20bs.
It’s better to swap in LS1, it’s easier and much less fab work according to the guys at rx7club.com.
Booo… LS1 is too heavy… keep the rotary engine… they’re good if they’ve been maintained well; rebuilds are cheap too…
20b 3 rotor from a cosmo, FTMFW!
i was thinkin of doing that. rx7s are nice car but rotary motor arent daily material
corrected haha
A b20 if i remember properly is a honda motor lolz, someone correct me if im wrong
its probably possible and as much as id love to see it, i dun think its a good idea. my rx-8 for example is perfectly balanced 50/50. so by putting a SR into it and taking out the rotary i have would completely upset that balance lol
^20B not B20, google is your friend
lol google smells like poo, wikipedia pwns all hahaha
Mazda 20B
Honda B20
LS1 v8 swaps to fd should not compromise the 50/50 balance itl weigh about 2500lbs but you would be able to keep the balance with the right suspension and chassis mods.
i’m probably wrong, but i remember reading somewhere that swapping engines does not change balance, it just adds weight… i could be wrong tho (i believe it was a thread about dropping RB26’s into S13’s)
i dont understand why you would swap an SR into an FD when you could just buy an S14, which is almost the same, maybe a little lighter, it has a back seat, costs less money, and an SR fits right in.
the SR swap is really a lot of work and money, to end up with a potentially slower car?
the V8 swap is popular for a reason. i dont know my domestics too well, but i think its the motor from the late model camaro SS’ (LS1?) that’s all aluminum, the motorset weighs something like, 40 pounds more then a 13B REW, and the power delivery is amazing compared to the rotary.
Isnt that the point of buying a rx-7? for rotary power?? Why the **** would you ever want to put an sr20 in an rx-7? especialy when they come from the factory with a twin turbo option. With the performance options and aftermarket support it has the rx-7 will always be fast enough without the help of a heavily modifyed sr20
the look is different, theres something about the lines of a FD that makes me want it more than a S14 which i can admit but thats only till i remember theres that god awful rotary in the engine bay lolz
despite their drawbacks, i think rotors are neat-o! if you wanna do a swap, try an R26B quad rotor.
I’ve had the grateful opportunity to drive FD3’s, S14’s, S13’s, R32’s etc…
Each car has their merits; but the scariness of rotary engines is overhyped… they are truly wonderful machines and a vastly different different driving experience… acceleration; sounds, handling… :R “You just need to treat the car like a lady and she’ll do anything to please you… Treat her like a bitch and she’ll be your worst enemy…”
I still love my Nissan’s but I got a soft spot for the FD’s…
If you are going to pound on the car and do minimal maintenance; go to the SR though…
fd’s on their own, haveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee to be one of my top cars, but if your going to go into custom jazz, throw in a ls1, and i dont know why people say it disrupts the weight ratios, i do belive a sr and a ls1,ka,rb are all withiin weight ratios. i mean yea a sr is probably lighter, i dont know exact numbers but probably like 40-50 lbs ligher, eff it supercharg or up the boost on the ls1 and thoes 40 lbs dont exist!!! whats 40 lbs when the wheels are comming off the ground
by all means tho, if you want. and it is about what you want. anything can be put into ANY THING. i seen a video of a vw golf a mk 1 with a 32v northstar caddy motor in it with a t7 turbo strapped to it. if that is possible, its only as far as your wallet will go.
You are correct, the LS1 is not much heavier then 13b REW.
I must agree 100% Rotary engines are marvels of engineering.
It would be almost impossible to find a 4 rotor, I believe they only made a few for there famous LeMans car.
^+100000, I will always have a soft spot for the FDS3… The little engine that could is what comes to mind first.
Screw FD’s, FC ftmfw! Used to be a dream car when I was younger and sometimes it still is.
You can get a R26B direct from Mazdaspeed, not cheap though. Most people usually go through making a custom 4 rotor IIRC. I’ve seen several setups on rx7club.com.
