Lets see how you feel about how you drove when you were 17 in about 5 more years. Who knows, maybe you’re the rare example of the 17 year old kid who was smart enough to never drive beyond his means in a fast car. Doesn’t change the fact that the vast majority of those kids are threads like this just waiting to happen, and the parents get to live with the aftermath and guilt if they helped their kid get that car.

I’m old enough now to at least admit to myself I drove like an idiot, despite having family I really respected telling me all the reasons why I shouldn’t. Luckily I survived that period in my life, no doubt at least in part to the fact that I had a whole 90 HP to get in trouble with in my first car.

This is an interesting read…

New medical research helps explain why. The part of the brain that weighs risks and controls impulsive behavior isn’t fully developed until about age 25, according to the National Institutes of Health.

You hear people talk about the invincibility of youth and now medical research is starting to explain where it comes from.

i didnt even start modding cars till soph year of college

before then i was a car tard. i remember driving home in the ITR, rpm was 4,400 @ 70 mph or something like that and my friend is like yo man, are u in 5th? im like yeah ! shit maybe its broken?

if i ever have children who end up liking cars ill make em autox or cart race or something when they are little, this way by the time they are of age to drive, they have it out of their system

in B4ITR talk :snky:

wow thats fucked up

You must of missed this

yup. Kind of like guns… if you raise a kid around them and teach them to respect them, they’re usually a lot more responsible than someone who’s never used one.

I, for one, did a LOT of very stupid shit as a kid in my cars. Could of been killed (or killed others) countless times pulling imature stunts. It makes me cringe to think that it’s not an isolated incident either. It’s all part of growing up

why do these threads ALWAYS turn nostalgic?

b/c we did dumb shit

spitting in the face of the reaper makes my cock bigger

b/c we did dumb shit
^ pretty much.

You bash the kid because he was doing 100mph down a public rd but say you did the same thing when you were that age… Also say it’s the parents fault for buying there kid a nice car. You say no amount of talking to your kids and change the way they drive. Threads like this should be shown to young teens that like to speed.

:azn:

that’s what she said

:meh:

then she left

tall

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m saying.

sad story,i only blame the the parents on there ignorence.

When you teach your kid to walk you move any furniture with sharp corners and set them loose in a nice carpeted room.

When you teach them to use utensils to eat you give them the safety fork with the rounded corners so they can’t stab themselves.

When you teach them to ride a bike you put on the training wheels and watch them in your safe driveway or sidewalk.

If sending them out in a sports car when they first get their license made sense the others would go more like this:

When you teach them to walk you do it on cement, maybe with a little broken glass sprinkled about. Just make sure to remind them to be careful.

When you teach them to use utensils give them the razor sharp chef’s knife. They say a sharp knife is a safe knife just like they say a sports car can help you avoid an accident right?

When you teach them to ride a bike just tell them to ride with traffic on the shoulder and send them down Delaware Ave in Buffalo.

One of my good friends who’s a bit older than me and has a daughter in her early teens was explaining the fun I have coming with my daughter who isn’t 2 yet. One of the things that really stuck with me was when he said he told her, “I’m your dad, not your friend. That means I love you more than anything in the world but that there will be times when you really hate the decisions I make that I feel are in your best interest”.

That’s what being a good parent comes down to; being a parent not a friend. A friend wants you to have the “cool” car, a parent wants you to have the safe car. I’m not saying you want to be your kid’s enemy, but not getting your way is part of growing up, and chances are 10 years later when you look back at it you’ll realize that parent was right.

You think with automoble accidents being one of the leading death of people parents/schools would talk/teach/show kids what could happen when they speed… examples like these two boys. There’s a lack of communication with kids on this topic. Remember in health class when they showed you them sick videos about safe sex and the diseases you can get. Well they should do the same with speeding and show the aftermaths of accidents. Maybe it will make them think twice about blowing 100mph down a road.
