Is there a difference between the SRT-4’s turbo and the EVO VIII’s turbo?
umm…yeah
ok what is it?
Big difference, the SRT’s turbo is tiny compared to the Evo’s.
what turbo is in the srt-4? I’m almost positive the EVO VIII’s turbo is either a 16G or Super 16G. But I may be wrong.
The SRT turbo is called a 16G, but it’s nothing like the Evo’s, trust me.
Why all the questions? Planning on turboing the cavy? There was a kid at my work that claimed he turboed his auto cavy and it ran 12.8 @ 130 MPH, he couldn’t understand why I laughed in his face when he said that.
actually there is a guy on j-body.org that has a turboed cavi and runs 12’s without shit done to the motor.
and yes I am planning on it. The thing is one friend of mine has a turbo kit which I plan on buying except theres no turbo. It’s supposed to use a mitsubishi 16G turbo…another friend of mine used to work for dodge and happened to “accidently” end up with a turbo 4 a SRT-4 at his house…so I figured I’d see if they can go together…why not?
Ever see an SRT-4 turbo? If so, you should be able to answer your own question.
Trust me, this kid didn’t even know what a turbo looked like, and a bone stock Cavi, w/ just a turbo, no fuel control is not going to run 12s, or run more than 10 seconds w/o blowing up, period. And it’s not a Supra, it’s not going to run a 12.8 @ 130 MPH.
with the ecotec it’s possible…this is what I was told…and it’s been backed up a few times. but I’m like alot of people I have a hard time believing something unless I see it.
ok…
:hsugh:
SunCavi???
Ehh but anyway srt4’s turbo’s are part of the exhaust manifold… so if he has the turbo it wont work right anyway sooo … and a EVO turbo is a twin scroll exhaust housing so that wont work too well either. Just go buy a used mitsu 14B from an 90-94 awd/fwd turbo talon/eclipse/laser and run that… good to 300whp or so.
12’s are not that easy to get you will need a good 112-114 trap to see them on street tires… for your car 350 whp or so due to weight. Now you can hit it on drag radials or slicks at a lower trap speed. Also if you have an auto I dont know how long that will hold up.
isn’t the srt turbo and manifold one piece?
Joe…just go on ebay or homemadeturbo.com(you must register to see classifieds) and grab one. Like they said above, you buying a turbo from a EVO or SRT, will be both expensive and probably won’t fit. You need to ask him what is included and a price. Let us know. Expect to spend near $1000 on your fuel management. I bought a AEM EMS, AEM UEGO, RC engineering 440cc injectors, and walbro 255 fuel pump for $1000, and this is pretty much the going rate for this stuff. Buying it new would be around $2500-3000. Let us know what this kit includes and what the cost of it is. If you need anymore help PM me and I’ll give you my number. I’m no expert, but I may be able to lead you in the right direction.
You will need:
-Exhaust manifold(expensive, so if included in the kit, and the kit is cheap…buy it!)
-Turbo 16G can get for under $150 ANYWHERE(easiest component to find cheap)
-Downpipe (connects the turbo to your exhaust)
-Charge piping and intercooler(can be bought on ebay or custom made)
-Oil Line kit
-Tap your oil pan for oil return(involves removing the pan)
-proper gaskets(exhaust manifold, oil pan, downpipe)
-proper gauges(boost, air/fuel(narrowband atleast), prefer the wideband
-ignition system? I went w/ a MSD but your stock components may be good enough
-I know nothing about the tranny in your car, but I wouldn’t expect it to hold up much more that maybe 25-30% more power than stock.
-spend the $$$ on a good fuel mgmt setup.
-I’m sure there is some stuff I’m missing, but its a start of the basic components you will need.
-oh yea…don’t worry about 1/4 times now anyways. you drive a cavalier not a nova, and without super heavy modification, you won’t touch their times. Make it a good reliable car first then worry about going faster. I know it is your daily driver, so reliability is the key. I give a thumbs up to anyone in pittsburgh putting a turbo on a Naturally Aspirated motor…with our limited local resources.(Not like cali where you can drive down the street and get every part you need.)-Good Luck
evo III GT’s are hella cheap these days
ok let me start by saying this…I’m not trying to run 12 sec. im not trying to build the fastest cavi in the world…i’m not even tryin to come close! I just wanna do shit to my car to make it how I want it. I’d like to turbo it for now…I was looking at the SRT-4 turbo…because a friend has one sitting in his garage. therefore it would be cheap and easy…the reason I was asking about the EVO turbo is becuase THAT’S the turbo that comes with the original turbo kit from Hahn (the super 16G). Someone told me that the super 16G and the SRT-4 turbo’s are the same…I posted the question on here to find out how true it is (If they really are the same). See I figure if I’m buying this kit and it doesn’t have a turbo in it…why not try and find a different turbo to fit! Becasue everyother cavalier/sunfire or any other ecotec runnin around that is turboed uses the turbo that came in the kit…right? So why not be different and put a 20G in for example. I mean think about it…you spend $5400 on a kit that has a turbo you’re not gonna throw the turbo away just to spend another $1000 on a 20G especially if the 16G’s worth $350 max. Get what I’m saying here?
the super 16g from hahn uses a t3 flange not a mitsu flange.
All I know is on Hahn’s site…it says the kit has a “HRC/Mitsubishi Super 16G Turbo”
from what i’ve learned over the last couple of days the 16G turbo’s are interchangable with T3/T4 turbos. I’ve had more than one turbo place tell me this.
no they are not the hahn 16g uses a t3 exhaust housing with a mitsu 16g wheel they are NOT interchangeable period you’re reading your information wrong or the pople telling you that are reading stuff wrong. t3 flange and mitsu flange aren’t even close
