Stainless Steel Mig Welding Wire??

Im looking for stainless steel mig welding wire. What should I go with? Its for welding intercooler pipes, throttle body elbows, and exhaust etc. Should I use 308 or 316? I was thinking 308 .030 should do the trick.

308 should be fine. been thinking about picking some up too. found out you don’t need the tri mix gas either. The tri mix helps but not necessary. figure on a 10 lb spool is about $70. at least that is what i was quoted. if you can do better let me know i would be interested. if you get wire soon let me know how it works

hopefully in the next week or 2 I’ll have my alltrac in for the fmic… i’ll be experimenting as well :eek3:

thats about what Ive found the price to be. I just gonna order a 2lb for now to give it shot.

Ill let you guys know how it works out…

did you ever weld em pipes up?

.030 is a bit thick for intercooler pipes, but if you are planning on ever welding thick header pipes it will be very nice.

so .030" would be good for 11ga?

11ga what are you welding? you making manifold? i weld with 035 wire and weld everything with it. sometimes smaller wire would be nice but typically welding heavier materials anyways

x2, I don’t use any smaller than .030, but if you are getting it primaraly for 16 guage or so, get some .020, or .025.
