Made a new topic so serious debate can go on here.
Summary:
If we can run the ball, plexico starts catching instead of dropping stuff, and we can get a decent QB experience we’ll be in the playoffs and go 10-6 if not better.
I think it’ll be a tough slugout against the dolphins, Maddox being out 6 weeks might be good against this team cause we might be a bit better off as our new QB seems to move around IN the pocket a bit better.
rookie qb’s first game and on the road, dolphins win because of a mistake on a read play. ben seems to have all the tools except experience. Its a little different than when marino and elway came in and dominated based on their abilities. The game is much more complex and there is a bigger gap from college to NFL now. maybe by the end of the 6 weeks ben will have adapted but its gonna take more than that. If the steelers can run dominantly this game they will win.
all ben’s bad tosses seemed to be either he short armed them or just threw to the wrong spot. those seem like things that you can work out of his game with some practice. i just hope that the secondary stays ok and that we don’t get anymore big injuries this season.
i dont see the steelers quite dominating this came, but they can win. Miami basically has their defense to rely on. aslong as we can run the ball decent, then it should be ok. I think a week of Ben practicing w/ the 1st team and actually preparing for a game, he’ll already be improved over last week (which was a decent performance). hes gonna make mistakes though, like cutty said. should be a good, close game…the steelers just need to be fired up and come to play
i think their running game looked good but i was really impressed with the defense! they were flying to the ball and hitting people hard! i felt pretty bad for feely he was gettin killed all night. as for ben, he did good IMO. looked strong in the pocket and made some good passes but you could see his inexperience and that he wasnt used to throwing to his recievers. i think when tommy comes back hes going to have a very hard time keeping his job. first time he fucks up ben is going to be put right on the field!
ben showed great signs of improvement and a win like this on the road is big for him. he still doesn’t know the playbook perfectly yet, lucky for him he has great receivers to help him out. some of his passes were right on the money and he looks great on the run. Mark my words now, Tommy lost his job for good!
I dont think Maddox has lost his job, yet. Cowher is the kinda guy that really sticks by his old war horses, the guys that have been thru the fire with him (ex: Bettis still getting carries when it should be 95% Staley and 5% Verron Haynes), as well as sticking with Washington and B. Alexander last season… As long as Maddox isn’t losing games for the Steelers, I think Cowher will leave him in. But I think we have Cincy written all over us (Maddox comes back, we go 9-7, and then Cowher appoints Roethlisberger starter in the off-season, just like Lewis did with Kitna and C. Palmer). I’m excited to see Ben the next 4 to 6 weeks though, for sure.
opinions on veron haynes? i think hes full of potential and will prove to be a huge asset to the steelers up until he matures into a feature back and leave teh steelers.
go and look at his last interception against teh raiders…and look at the routes the recivers ran…shit high school wr run better routes than that…the reciver were sloppy on that play!!!
Ben: He made two/three REALLY bad throws, he seems to throw and make better decisions on the rollout, which is good maybe we can get some naked bootlegs, and play off our running game better. He should of had 2/3 interceptions though in the game, but the dolphins were uh unsucessful in getting them…
Defense: Unknown I mean we played against the dolphins which have had 9 new starters in 2 weeks, 4 of which were not with the team 2 weeks ago… Ouch, ouch, and uh more ouch… Have to wait a bit longer in the season…
Plexico: WTF have you done for me lately… catch the fucking ball.
