So I’ve been with verizon for probably 8 years now? I’ve had the vx8350 ever since it came out, I just keep buying $15 phones on ebay and fixing them when they break with old parts. I must have a dozen of these things in various states of disrepair.
Anyways, I have my buddy on my plan, he has a smart phone and pays $80 a month, I pay around $50. for a flip phone. I know.
I’m not really hard on getting a smart phone, but I think I’m over paying for what I have now. If I kick him off my plan can I get onto a basic unlimited texts/calls for $30? I wouldn’t mind a smart phone but I don’t want to pay $80+ a month for it. I have internet at school and work, so I’m almost always connected to the internet in some way, but having GPS and google in my pocket would be nice sometimes.
Plus I go through a phone about twice a year, so having a pile of part phones and 2-3 ready to go at a moments notice is nice, I keep a spare in the glove box of my car that I can just activate and move on with my life. No insurance or bullshit required.
I don’t want the sales pitch at a verizon store so any advice would be great.
Smartphone’s are really more than a toy…if you choose to use them that way. I think almost every VZW plan offers unlimited calls/texts.
If you get a smartphone use it wisely. The data limit may seem scary but most people don’t come close to reaching their limit. Use your WiFi at school/work/home to prevent your phone from eating through data. Simple
You can ask people which phone to get Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone…you’ll get a million different answers on what to get and why. I personally prefer Android but ease of use may fall to the iPhone. Where as hardware wise a Windows Phone may be superior (battery, camera). Look at what’s important to you. TEST them out in store, do your research.
I do almost the exactly same thing. I use the VX8300…on my 3rd (the first one was broken, but by no fault of the phone - second one was run over in a oarking lot afterfalling out of my pocket, and even still it worked, but it was a bit broken on the outside)…a truly indestructable phone…I pay about 50 as well on a family plan with my mother…I have no interest in a smart phone…this works really well for me.
If it’s your first smartphone I’d consider the insurance. If you go iPhone definitely go with Applecare because for $99 you get 2 years of coverage and $79 at fault replacement which is good while you get used to carrying around a little glass computer everywhere after years of having a far more study flip phone.
I’ve been kinda sorta carrying around a new ipod for the past 2 years while at school. Only have one dent in the back. And I guess I really haven’t smashed or dunked a phone in a while, the hinge wears out or the software gets buggy after a while are the typical problems. Last time I broke broke a screen was 3 years ago I believe. I just like being prepared with a back up phone ready to go just incase.
I’m looking to ditch my friend, I only had him on so he could get his life together and it’s about time. Plus I’m leaving NY after graduation in December and don’t really want any ties in NY.
I wouldn’t mind an iphone, I just don’t like the bullshit they play with connectors and all that. I don’t really listen to music either. Hell, I haven’t even downloaded itunes or anything for my new ipod. I strictly use it for email/calendar/internet while at school. and candy crush ir the chive while on the shitter. lol. I kind of like the ipod since its relatively small compared to a droid.
I do get 20% through work but I’m only a co-op and will be done in may. My last discount I rode out for 3-4 years after I stopped working for a place, so I’m not sure how long I’d get after May.
I guess I’ll go into verizon and see what they can do. I was looking online and the cheapest is like 70 bucks a month which would be 60 after the discount and taxes. hmm.
OR I could get a GPS and continue to deal with no internet
is this for real? unless you’re a senior citizen (thats not even a good excuse) you should have a smart phone.
depending on if you want a monthly payment plan i wouldnt recommend verizon or att’s next plans.
personally if i were you i would get a used iphone 4s off ebay and start with that, if it ever breaks you can always use your upgrade for a quick phone.
you shouldnt listen to me though since i work for verizon and carry around 3 smart phones, a tablet, jetpack and a basic flip phone lol
yea, but why should I have a smartphone? I mean I’ve gone almost 30 years without one. I have a fairly good sense of direction and don’t mind stopping for directions if I’m really lost. I don’t need the internet in my pocket all the time. I don’t twitter or instagram and I can go a few days without checking facebook and be ok.
I just think I’m throwing away money by not switching.
I’m still not sure about the no-keyboard thing for permanent texting. I mean I can send complete texts without having to look, with proper spelling and grammar. I don’t think I could text and drive with a smart phone. lol
The one thing I’m worried about is if I actually want to go back to a dumb phone if I’ll realistically be able to.
yea, I know, but like I said I only use the ipod when I’m at school. so I don’t use it for gps or any of that. When out and about it’s useless because I don’t have any music on it and it doesn’t get data w/o wifi.
I’ll see how much it would be switch to a data plan package and get a used phone.
Cause no one in the past was ever successful without a smartphone. Not saying they aren’t useful, but I rarely see people using them productively. You can make become a millionaire without one. Nuff said.
I mean, being able to watch porn wherever you are is nice, but My body will keep on breathing without it.
I could understand not using one…however if you carry around an iPod and use it for “email/calendar/internet” it seems silly not to have a smart phone.
I love when people tell others what they need to own. Most people don’t need a smart phone, it’s just a luxury. I finally broke down and got one a few months ago, since my old phone was on life support and I really needed something for driving directions. I barely use it for anything other than quick internet searches (handy for sure). My old phone had every other function I use, even if they weren’t as advanced. My life wouldn’t be over if I replaced it with a ‘stupid’ phone again.
