I need a new phone. I currently have a voyager, but I find it to be a pile of shit.
I am due for an upgrade, so I come to you nerds for advice. I have no need for internet access, no need for email access(unless it is on wifi. I refuse to pay for it). Calendar Syncing would be nice. My biggest gripe is that I downright HATE the software on most phones. I find them to be cluttered, disorganized, non-intuitive pieces of shit. My biggest needs are: QWERTY(for texting), reliability, battery-life, GOOD user interface, clear sound(hearing sucks), bluetooth.
I like the Dare for the most part, but there is a lot about it that I do not like.
A PDA phone with wifi would be cool. I just don’t feel the need to pay for the internet/email access because I won’t use it that much.
He said he doesn’t want to pay for data so he obviously doesn’t need a BB but you are going to be in a tight pinch comparing software on Verizon since they lock down all theirs with their own software. One of the reasons I switched. If you want something you can add apps and stuff and sync through your computer you are going to look into a BB or Treo without the data. I am pretty sure both you can sync locally to your computer with a cable.
yea, balckberry is out since you HAVE to get the data plan. $80/month is too much for me considering I will never use what I am paying for.
Frankly, I wouldn’t even want my boss knowing that I have a blackberry.
Palm Centro and XV6900 opinions?
edit: I liked the concept of the vzw Blitz. Cheap phone with QWERTY, however, the UI is just the same old disgusting Verizon dog crap. Reviews were pretty bad for this phone.
My phone is dying too and I am really disappointed in the selection over at the Verizon store. I went there this morning and touched every phone and didn’t like any of them enough to say “This one”
My vibrate is broken, screen is cracked and the entire shell is missing half of the paint. I am actually going to hold onto my phone for as long as I can, and that is a sad sad thing…
Go to engadget.com and read the last week/skim through to look at all of the 3G awesome phones coming out in Japan…
800X600 screen resolutions, 8MP cameras, etc.
CDMA blows. My BB for work using Verizon is like dial up as well. Doesn’t AT&T use a faster network so that BB’s on AT&T feel like high-speed internet?
I wish that everyone I knew would switch to AT&T so that I could go too…
Just switch to AT&T… they roll over their minutes, so unless you talk like a billion hours during the day you should be fine.
AT&T phones rock.
Tom how is your bill 80 without data? Thats insane unless you have a lot of minutes.
I know my phone bill when I was with Verizon was only like 45/mo (unlimited txt, and 1000 minutes).
If anybody wants a 22% off Verizon code or 24% off AT&T (excludes iPhone, pm me)
Stop into an AT&T store and check, surprisingly I’ve found AT&T coverage to be pretty much the same as Verizon. I had lots more dropped calls with Verizon and not one with AT&T yet and I’ve been with them for 4 months now.
Switching over was the best choice I made. Well work paid for the switch and the bill now, but still.
I will voice my opinion on getting on a shared plan with her, I did that with my gf and it was a pain in the ass I wished I had never done it, when I broke away from Verizon she stuck with them and assumed liability of her own account and I was never happier.
Honestly, both network speeds were the same. Now coverage anywhere I have gone has been equal to verizon or better, not just in buffalo but in random cities around the country and middle of no where towns.
ATT Phones are great IMO. You dont have to have a data plan if you don’t want but make sure you don’t use internet or you pay out the ass. I had the BlackJack II and had the option if I wanted it or not. Also, they run Java so you can really hack into them if you wanna have fun.
Verizon phones like I said before all run teh same software so you are going to be really limited unless you go with a PDA phone. I was allowed to have a Treo back in the day without a data plan. You might want to call and ask if you can do it with a non bb phone.
If you do wanna switch, look online for ways to get out of the ETF. I argued with them and they waived my fee.
