Verizon phone with decent software?

I need a new phone. I currently have a voyager, but I find it to be a pile of shit.

I am due for an upgrade, so I come to you nerds for advice. I have no need for internet access, no need for email access(unless it is on wifi. I refuse to pay for it). Calendar Syncing would be nice. My biggest gripe is that I downright HATE the software on most phones. I find them to be cluttered, disorganized, non-intuitive pieces of shit. My biggest needs are: QWERTY(for texting), reliability, battery-life, GOOD user interface, clear sound(hearing sucks), bluetooth.

I like the Dare for the most part, but there is a lot about it that I do not like.

A PDA phone with wifi would be cool. I just don’t feel the need to pay for the internet/email access because I won’t use it that much.

wait a few weeks for BB storm

i have the moto q9m, i like it but i will like the bb storm more.

He said he doesn’t want to pay for data so he obviously doesn’t need a BB but you are going to be in a tight pinch comparing software on Verizon since they lock down all theirs with their own software. One of the reasons I switched. If you want something you can add apps and stuff and sync through your computer you are going to look into a BB or Treo without the data. I am pretty sure both you can sync locally to your computer with a cable.

soooo don’t get a data plan then, you can still use the phone…

no, u cant

yea, balckberry is out since you HAVE to get the data plan. $80/month is too much for me considering I will never use what I am paying for.

Frankly, I wouldn’t even want my boss knowing that I have a blackberry.

Palm Centro and XV6900 opinions?

edit: I liked the concept of the vzw Blitz. Cheap phone with QWERTY, however, the UI is just the same old disgusting Verizon dog crap. Reviews were pretty bad for this phone.

My phone is dying too and I am really disappointed in the selection over at the Verizon store. I went there this morning and touched every phone and didn’t like any of them enough to say “This one”

My vibrate is broken, screen is cracked and the entire shell is missing half of the paint. I am actually going to hold onto my phone for as long as I can, and that is a sad sad thing…

yeah, it is complete BS that in order to get something decent, I am hand-cuffed to a minimum of $80 monthly bill.

This BS makes me sick. I wish there was a way to buy a physical phone, and install android onto it.

On Engadget all I keep seeing is new AT&T phones that look awesome. For two months now I haven’t seen anything show up that Verizon is working on…

What network does Verizon use compared to AT&T? CDMA vs 3G?

yeah, verizon uses CDMA protocol

Go to engadget.com and read the last week/skim through to look at all of the 3G awesome phones coming out in Japan…

800X600 screen resolutions, 8MP cameras, etc.

CDMA blows. My BB for work using Verizon is like dial up as well. Doesn’t AT&T use a faster network so that BB’s on AT&T feel like high-speed internet?

I wish that everyone I knew would switch to AT&T so that I could go too…

I want some milky roll-over minutes.

Just switch to AT&T… they roll over their minutes, so unless you talk like a billion hours during the day you should be fine.

AT&T phones rock.

Tom how is your bill 80 without data? Thats insane unless you have a lot of minutes.
I know my phone bill when I was with Verizon was only like 45/mo (unlimited txt, and 1000 minutes).

If anybody wants a 22% off Verizon code or 24% off AT&T (excludes iPhone, pm me)

its not 80, but it would be with data. It would be around 40 without it

I have 2 problems with switching carriers:

1- I want to do a share plan with the GF, but she has a 2 year contract not ending any time soon

2- I get good reception with Verizon, not really sure how good it will be in this area, with AT&T. I don’t know that I am willing to take that chance.

Stop into an AT&T store and check, surprisingly I’ve found AT&T coverage to be pretty much the same as Verizon. I had lots more dropped calls with Verizon and not one with AT&T yet and I’ve been with them for 4 months now.

Switching over was the best choice I made. Well work paid for the switch and the bill now, but still.

I will voice my opinion on getting on a shared plan with her, I did that with my gf and it was a pain in the ass I wished I had never done it, when I broke away from Verizon she stuck with them and assumed liability of her own account and I was never happier.

I’ll stop in and check it out. If it really seems better, I will pay her damn cancellation fee.

Honestly, both network speeds were the same. Now coverage anywhere I have gone has been equal to verizon or better, not just in buffalo but in random cities around the country and middle of no where towns.

ATT Phones are great IMO. You dont have to have a data plan if you don’t want but make sure you don’t use internet or you pay out the ass. I had the BlackJack II and had the option if I wanted it or not. Also, they run Java so you can really hack into them if you wanna have fun.

Verizon phones like I said before all run teh same software so you are going to be really limited unless you go with a PDA phone. I was allowed to have a Treo back in the day without a data plan. You might want to call and ask if you can do it with a non bb phone.

If you do wanna switch, look online for ways to get out of the ETF. I argued with them and they waived my fee.

CDMA VS GSM

lol

Is there 3G in America? I am so phone illiterate, I just drool over the 3G news I keep reading…

And LTE and 4G and all of those other “new” standards being released “somewhere else”

GSM =/ 3G? So, these awesome phones are worthless in the states?
