STUDDED TIRES?

anyone know the fines? im considering it for the winter…any input?

They’re legal in N-Ontario, but I heard there’re by-laws prohibiting them in most of S-Ontario, sorry I don’t know the fines. Just providing the info I know…

i googled… found some info
Studded tire facts

    - If you are a resident of Northern Ontario, you can use studded
tires with lightweight studs anywhere in Ontario, from October 1
       to April 30 inclusive
    - Under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Northern Ontario covers areas
north of and including Parry Sound and Nipissing Districts
    - All other Canadian provinces and territories allow the use of
       studded tires
    - Follow manufacturers' recommendations for installation,
       maintenance and operations
    - Drive according to the road and weather conditions regardless of
       the tires used
    - Using illegal studs or driving outside the legal time period can
result in fines of up to $1,000

They’re loud as hell on tarmac. haha.

I read up on them because I wanted to rock them on the G, they only improve stopping distances in very icy conditions, and actually give you less grip in any other situation. They’re worth it if you drive somewhere that is always slippery, but otherwise fuck it.

Contrary to popular belief, solarian is absolutely correct in that studded tires are basically of no use to most of us.

Tire Rack performans controlled testing on these types of things, watch this quick (2 min or so) video on their studded vs. studless tire testing on a ice rink.

Enjoy.

We wouldn’t want to ruin our smooth roads with studs, now would we.
