I was driving up from the Keys earlier this weekend with my fiance back into Palm Beach County, doing about 80mph in a 70mph zone in my little rental nissan sentra.
We seen a group of about 8-10 guys on sport bikes go buzzing by us, doing at least 120mph, probably much more. These guys were splitting lanes in traffic, and a couple guys even passed cars on the shoulder to get by.
I was doing about 80mph in the middle lane, and they passed me like I was standing still. I said to my fiance right away “If these idiots come up on stopped or slow traffic, we are going to see a body in the road.”
Sure enough a couple miles down the road, when the traffic picked up going into Miami-Dade county, one of the guys rear ended a ford full sized van, putting a huge dent into the rear of it. The van slid into another car, and the bike was in a million pieces all over the turnpike. The rider was dead instantly, he was face down in the ditch against the center divider. The body looked like hamburger. The kid was actually wearing a full helmet but didn’t have a chance going that fast.
A bunch of people stopped to try to help the rider, and call for help. Others were taking pictures of the body with their iphones as they passed by. Another day in the jungle I suppose.
There was someone who hit the guard rail on the skyway going 100+ I cant remember how long ago. The EMTs said that at that speed, the only thing holding his body together was his suit.
Pretty scary and I just can not wrap my head around people doing triple digit speeds through traffic esp in a group of that many people.
where the people in the van ok? If you want to kill yourself there are easier ways that dont risk taking others with you, this is why i cant stand assholes who try to show off in traffic or drunk driving. Just put a damn bullet in your head and dont risk someone elses life because you dont deserve to be sucking up my oxygen.
I didn’t know if anyone else was hurt in the accident. The van was wrecked big time, but the damage was contained to the rear of the van. I was saying I’m glad it wasn’t us that got rear ended by the bike, because being in a little nissan sentra we would have been hurt bad.
I couldn’t find any news stories on this accident, I did a google search and this kind of thing happens all the time in the Miami area.
