Sunroof rust (suggestions)

Hi, I’m fairly new to the forum and 240sx and I need advice about the following,
I’m looking to purchase this 240 there is surface rust here and there but the main concern is the rust on the roof, there is alot of rust. I’m looking into turning this car into a project, so what do you guys think? does cutting and welding new metal into the sunroof hurt the structural integrity of the car? Is there any way to get around that problem?

Thanks in advance.

I’ll try to take a pic and upload it.

cutting out the rust and welding new pieces of sheet metal is your best bet, just make sure you know how to weld, too much heat and it will deform, you want to tack all around.

i have rust on the part right above the driver side mirror and touch the windsheild its a weird spot to fix… to fix my cars rust i have to remove all my windsheilds and pretty much rebukild the car lol

If it is just the seet metal on the roof, then you should be fine as far as structural integrity goes. But then again, it also depends on how much you’re cutting out. Most 240s I’ve seen with sunroof rust do not have that much.

if its rotten right through, the car is a waste of time.

agree with lewtz… rust on the roof is a good sign the underside is FUBAR

most coupe’s have rusted roofs around the sunroof, its sheet metal doesnt mean its fubar. it can be fixed in many different ways

yeah mine is rusted there are some spots where it is rusted through but i am goin to take the headliner off and weld in some new sheet metal

take a pic, and post it. Most people will know what’s too much rust to even bother with it…

also post pics of the underbody (probably the most important part, especially if you want a project car).
