swapping trac pad in a laptop?

anyone ever attempt this before?

not hard at all.

a few screws… and a ribbon cable.

just have to crack the case open first.

If its a dell laptop… done in under 10 minutes…

edit: Oops I lied… you have to separate the top half and the bottom half… that will take a little longer… but remember the little panel that houses the power button and reset button … goes first. then the keyboard… disconnect the monitor ribbon cable and pull off screen (not mandatory just much easier). then 8-12 screws on the bottom and pull it apart. be careful when you pull it the ribbon cable to the touchpad.

it is an old dell.

want to make a few bucks?

sure… that will take me no time what so ever are you sure its the touchpad though?

and do you have the replacement part?

and what is the model number?

you can usually google the laptop make and there will be instructions on how to crack the case open… pretty easy repair if you have opposable thumbs

or a wife to impregnate

weak

I tried taking the broken one apart, since it doesn’t matter how screwed up it gets (the screen is pretty much falling off of it), but it gave me some problems. Couldn’t figure out how to actually get the case apart and didn’t want to break anything. I have 2 of these BTW, a “good” one, and a broken one

The computer is a DELL Insperon 7000. The “good” computers trac pad has never worked as far as I can remember. The crap ones does work though, so figured I’d throw that one into the nicer machine

Please tell me this isn’t the 300mhz machine you were trying to install XP on in the other thread.

Spending any amount of money on repairs for that thing is a waste. Put the money toward a new laptop.

lol it is

it’s not a bad little machine. Right now I’m using airmouse on it (for the iphone) but it kind of sucks.

I might grab a mini-laptop soon, but the dell still has some life left in her

holy fack i would def spend the couple hundred to not use a 300mhz… i can’t even imagine how slow that would be now a days :stuck_out_tongue:

lol yeah, it’s pretty bad at times.

the worst part is surfing the internet. That poor processor has a hard time keeping up with flash content

Get a mouse instead…trac pads suck.

+1 on tossing the laptop

while I agree, I don’t have a desk for it so mouse space is very limited

+1 on tossing the laptop

nothing would make me happier, but gotta wait to grab a new one

steal a new one? i vote for taking ILC’s

I gave my friend a laptop like that for free. Heres what he did with it.

Do the same steve!

haha  will post the results
