Saw a glimpse tonight on this when I was running the path along the river in NT. Seems like the guy jumped in and never resurfaced. Name is unknown so far.

No joke, I’ve jumped into that water from the train bridge before and lost a good pair of running shoes. The muck at the bottom literally sucks you in. I managed to freak a living shit and free my feet from the shoes and resurface. I’ll never get in that water again though. Scariest moment of my life.
Sad… it blows my mind that people over 5 years old dont know how to swim.
Like said above, its the mud at the bottom and shopping carts/junk that you land in.
I don’t…well at least properly. I could probably have kept myself afloat before in deep water. Until I got to High School, none of the schools I went to had pools, I didn’t have one at my house, and my friends all had the 3 footer above ground pools.
I think its important parents enroll their kids into swimming lessons then…
As for mud and shopping carts, well, the water was probably 10 ft deep there… what was he doing down on the bottom by the shopping carts and stuff… did he jump in off of a lock? bridge? wall? or just wade into the water… regardless if you are a decent swimmer this should be a non-issue.
Secondly, sounds like a giant lack of common sense. (ex) its dark out, I dont know how to swim, water is murky, lets jump in.
Very sad nonetheless
I’m guessing based on the “how deep is the water” question that he didn’t wade in, and probably jumped from some height. Getting stuck in the mud underwater is a very scary feeling.
Ok… so he can’t swim, some boaters just told him it’s about 12 feet deep, and he decides to jump in anyway? Brilliant!
i was walking past dockside when this happened and apparently he jumped off the side of the canal and got stuck in the mud like stated and it took them 3 hours to find him. I have also jumped from that train bridge before and lost a shoe and cut my foot on the zebra muscles.
No joke, that mud/muck is 1-2’ deep. It sucks your feet in and is near impossible to wiggle out. That’s why it’s better to jump in with loose shoes. I got so lucky, I was underwater for about 30-40 seconds trying to get out.
Fuck
That
Shit.
Never again.
Probably less than 10 seconds. But scary none-the-less.
Shit, sorry. I meant minutes. 3-4 minutes.
Lol
If you guys are talking about the train bridge in NT, ive seen kids jump from almost the top and resurface. Not doubting the story about the mud (since ive never been down there) but they came back up.
Ugh thats gotta be a terrible feeling
Did you contact the authorities to make sure the correct signage was put up afterwards to warn people?
There was a low water buoy down the canal but nothing posted near the bridge. I contacted the authorities and they said I should file a complaint with the city.
Smart ass, lol.
SPAM! on top of his game! lol
ZAPPED! Sry, just couldn’t resist.
misleading topic, 404 “swimmer” not found
but he died drowning, not swimming
