Well after owning my 240 for almost 4 years now, I decided to go car shopping and stumbled upon a Type-R in great condition (and has LSD) and for a fair price so I grabbed it up. I know it’s a switch to the FWD/Honda side but she sure is fun to drive.
not so much on the performance … but they are a really nice car and if I had a honda it would be an ITR for sure … they look and handle awesome …but the power just isnt there until 98000rpm and then its time to shift …
I meant performance on the track. The combination of the VTEC, lightweight, and good power to weight ratio makes ITR’s really really quick. An almost stock ITR set the fastest time at our last track event by nearly 2 seconds. Of course, driver plays a factor too, but if you’re talking about any sort of performance involving corners, the ITR is a sweet ride.
haha I know this is a tough crowd to be posting this in. The VTEC does a bit more then make noise, but I agree, with the max HP (my whp is around 180) coming in a 8000 and the redline at 8400 it doesn’t give much room after you hit peak HP, but I bought this car cause of it’s handling which is superb. I didn’t expect it to feel so tight from a FWD car. It’s the oddest feeling after owning a 240 to let the RPM’s go to 8400, took me a few tries without feeling guilty, lol.
Haha no this car dynoed at ~180 and trust me this is a very different car from a stock 240sx. I don’t expect everyone to love this car, but the engineering is still impressive.
I dunno if anyone saw the video “History of the Type-R” on 780tuners, but they had a 1/4 mile race of a 96spec Type-R against a 96 Nissan Silvia… and guess who won? That’s right Type-R! lol.
it isnt a stock ITR, it has mods did you even bother to read that part of the post?? he said it has 180hp and most likely 120tq considdering it is still a honda
Yea these things are definatly lacking torque, it’s quite a different feel when you step on the pedal and it doesn’t seem like anything is happening, definitely has a top end though. Look i’m not trying to get in some kinda of pissing match here, I’m aware that the Type-R is not capable of making the same numbers as a Silvia when modded. Some guys need to lighten up a bit
And Jeff, I saw the same episode you did, the silvia took the ITR off the line but in the end, not so lucky, haha, the ITR driver was getting pretty excited in that clip.
Take it to the necc dyno day, I’d like to see that, as I’m sure you would too, since it’s your new pimp ride and you’d love to have a dyno sheet for it.
On the otherhand, I’ll let you drive my car if you let me drive yours, lol. I used to have a teg, but it wasn’t a type R.
Does anybody notice that gsr’s seem to burn oil alot? Almost everytime I see a gsr they try to race me and as soon as they hit vtec you can see blue smoke pouring out, and I laugh so hard I have to slow down or crash. I hope the itr engines aren’t like that. Or is it normal to see blue smoke pour out of the exhaust when they hit vtec? Or maybe it’s just regina a-holes who own gsr’s and don’t take care of them properly.
