So I’m contemplating switching from Verizon to T-Mobile to save some money. I’m just looking for opinions here from people who use T-Mobile. Do you have many dropped calls? How is signal strength in general? How’s their customer service, any billing hassles, ect. I need to make this decision probably within the next few days so if anyone who uses T-Mobile has some input, good or bad, let me know. Thanks!
edit- Searching some old threads from a couple years ago showed that texting had some delays to them. Anyone still experience this problem? Other people said their coverage was spotty even though the maps online showed good signal strength in their area. I know Verizon is pretty top notch, I’m just trying to cut down on some costs. I primarily use my phone for texting. Other than that, I don’t use a lot of minutes, and neither does my fiancee. So if texting is going to suck with T-Mobile, I’m not going to even bother with looking at them.
ive never had a dropped call, their customer service is great, ive always been taken care of with them
depending where u live signal strength is good, sometimes itll randomly drop out, or wont get 3g. but thats only like 5% of the time really, any other time is usually atleast 4 bars. or if you dont have a signal it will connect to another network or whatever so you can atleast still use your phone.
i have 1000minutes, unlimited web/text/whatever for droid, and i think 8$ insurance on my phone and i think its 107 a month
I have t-mo no problems except losing signals when im in the southerntier and my Verizon buddies still have signal. Then another 30 minute drive South leaves them without signal also.
Their customer service once sent me a free phone with no strings attached because I was a good customer, when I told them my phone was broken. The same exact phone I had BTW (Blackberry).
Positives:
GREAT customer service. I can’t say enough good things about them. Plus, if you’re going to get a BlackBerry (which you should) they have an entire department that specializes in them. Unlocking phones is as simple as calling them up and asking for your unlock code(just need to be with them for 90days). Oh yeah, GSM/GPRS > CDMA Just swap SIM cards to use a new device. There are even SIM readers for computers so you can get right online without having to tether your phone to it, some laptops have the reader built right in.
Cons
I get patchy service in buildings and forget about it in rural areas. If you use the browser a lot or like the phone-as-modem option, the EDGE network is only 2.5G and is fairly slow. Also, forget about your unlimited text length, T-Mobile still has a 160 character limit but their unlimited text plan is only $15.
Thanks so far guys for the feedback. I would be getting a basic talk and text plan, no data plans. I don’t have a need for web browsing on my phone. Being in the Syracuse area, the signal strength shouldn’t be bad. Granted there are some rural areas around here, I can live with that.
My fiancee has been with sprint for the past 5+ years and has never been thrilled with them. Lots of random charges would show up periodically on the bill and then it would always seem like a hassle to settle them over the phone. I’m sure there’s always going to be someone with problems like these no matter what company. It looks like I’m going to go with T-Mobile as long as I can get out of the last two months of my Verizon contract.
I have T-Mobile for my wife’s phone and it is great with the exception of spotty coverage. It works great all over Houston, West Palm Beach and Orlando, but drops coverage sometimes in Western New York in areas like Eden and more stickish places.
Get AAA the tow service, you get a %15 discount plus no $30 activation fee. My wife has a Blackberry with unlimited everything and I pay $82 with insurance and taxes.
