Back to TWC now that I’m on Grand Island. It blows. What a crappy interface. Limited on demand content. Buggy DVR (records repeats even when you set it to new runs only.)
So what’s the deal with TiVo? Looks like a way better interface. Anyone have it? How is the on demand content?
We have had this discussion and a better option is subjective I still like live TV and don’t mind DVR’s I just want one I can control.

Tivo Premiere boxes are HORRIBLE they have gotten such shit rating and are really kludgy. However the Tivo Series 3, and Tivo HD and Tivo HD XL are not bad however the interface is SD only and compared to many modern DVR boxes shows it age. However with that being said they are rock solid. If you have your heart set on a Tivo then look for a used Series 3, HD or HD XL on ebay with a lifetime subscription.
There aren’t too many cons that I know about, one very crappy thing is if you get two and enable Multiroom viewing it does not stream shows, it will physically transfer shows from one Tivo to the other which becomes problematic when companies like Time Warner enable the copy protections.
With all that said, if you don’t mind spending a little money and time you can build a Windows Media Center based DVR box using either http://cetoncorp.com/products.php or HDHomeRun – Silicondust, my research shows this while a bit more upfront expensive than a Tivo is cheaper and pretty easy to setup. You can even buy that card throw it in your desktop and use a Xbox as a MCE to save money, making the assumption that you have a xbox.
