it was leaking from the o-ring. we cleaned up where it goes in, and cleaned up the tube itself, then sealed it up with some gasket sealer and reinstalled it. we also found a wire to a coolant sensor was hanging by a thread. we soldered that up as well. while trying to remove the tube, i bumped my arm into the dip stick tube…of course, it shatters!
as she sits now, only thing left of the intake is to get the hose for the egr. then i plan on putting a little ATF in the oil and run it for a lil bit before i change the oil to clean it out a bit. fill the coolant. change the dip stick tube. put a little fuel supplement in and then hopefully fire this thing up!
my dad came over for a quick min to help crack the fuel lines on the injectors to get the air outta the lines. by the time we got to the 3rd cylinder it was about to start. it runs nice and smooth at an idle. i filled the coolant at start up. i noticed a ticky sound near the alt and the battery light was on. i took the car around the block a few times, it had power compared to the first time i drove it. en route the cel went off and the battery light went out/alt noise stopped. i checked the battery voltage and it was charging again. so i go to drop the car off, and the cel comes back on!! damn you VW!! then we go to the store and the battery light/noise comes back! i decide to keep the car and look into the charging system before i give it back. while I’m at it ill change the ABS sensor haha. i still have to change the oil yet, im gonna run it with the bit of atf in it for another day then drain it. if its not one thing with this car its another…silly VWs! also need to hook it up to scan the codes.
Should just convert it to CNG. There will be infrastructure in less than 3 years in NY, realistically 2. paying around $2.15 a gallon is better than paying above $4.15
bahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! today i was about to change the oil/abs sensor and i noticed the coolant tube we tried to seal, didn’t seal. time to order a new o-ring for the damn thing! it was such a pain in the ass to R/R the thing, and here we go again. i noticed a little leak after the first day i drove it around, and it seems to be worse now. i also looked more into the charging system issue. first off the belt is cracked and stretched out. the infamous ticking sound is coming from the hydraulic actuator part of the tensioner has play at the end bushing. i found a tensioner for $55, it SEEMS easy to replace, only 2 bolts. haha
so here is the new to do list
-o-ring for the coolant tube
-change oil
-serpentine belt/tensioner
-abs sensor
-pull codes
i was kinda hoping to have this done by now. but i think thats it for the list for now (pending codes) haha
finally got the new oring for the coolant tube. got it all tore apart again, come to find out the reason why it didn’t seal is because the crappy ass gasket sealer didn’t dry at all. (the stuff i used luke had sitting in his car, who knows if it was super old or what)
bout time its goin to get changed. i’m still waiting on the new one to come in, i removed it so i can match it to the new one when it comes in. i forgot to check on the idler pulley before i called it a night. the new belt tensioner came in, i just have to get that from my friend. thats all i got done for the day. still gotta change the abs sensor (that will prolly wait for now), change the oil/filter and pull codes.
if its my old jetta then it has pp520 nozzles and a less than stellar tune which just dumps fuel across the map and thus clogs the EGR pretty quickly.

also dont mash up that head when youre putting it back together. it was fully rebuilt right after i bought it cause the TB snapped within 30 days of me purchasing the car from autohaus
I’m not super worried about the codes, is just like to know whats throwing them for right now. And walker, it all went back together smoothly. I didn’t mash anything up lol
