TDI tinkering

today got it all buttoned up for now. put the new serp belt and tensioner on. the rattle is gone and so is the battery light. i filled up the coolant, no leaks! after that did the oil/filter.

new and old tensioner

they look different because the new one had a pin in it, keeping the tensioner compressed making it easier to put the new belt on. it helped, until i had to try and hold the wrench on and then remove the pin.

this is where the horrible ticking was coming from, beat bushing

the tensioner wasn’t bad at all. i didn’t realize the pulley for the ps pump had to come off. it wasn’t hard, just kinda inconvenient haha

i drove it around for a bit afterwards. the check light was off then came back on. went to the store, came out, started the car up and it was off again! i was super stoked. but of course by the time i got back home it came on again haha

Get it scanned. Glow plugs and glow plug harness.

I’ll deff look into it. I gave the car back for now so she could get to school/work. She’s gonna bring it back so I can do the abs sensor, Ill see if she wants her winter wheels on while I’m at it lol

Lol @ large nozzles and poopy tune, had +80’s in my Dmax and a Banks Six-Gun…soot city lol, went EFI Live and never looked back

Of the intake and EGR were that bad, what does the turbo look like?

Oh its prolly just as gross. I think its gonna need a turbo anyway. There is oil in the IC piping. It runs more smooth now, but still not much power

Do they have rebuild cartridges for it? If so just rebuild it and add a batmowheel compressor wheel if they make one for it, noticed a considerable drop in spool time with it in my old Dmax

Not sure, didn’t really look into it yet. She took the car off the road for winter. I’ll be waiting for her to buy new injectors, and then lookin into the turbo

Oh ok, we’ll good work this far. Dirty nasty job

Thanks!

No problem, keep us posted on it’s progress when it happens

so i picked up the vchecker scanner from hallock. hooked it up today to pull the codes. here is the LIST of codes haha

-00283 left front speed sensor
-00287 right rear speed sensor
-00290 left rear speed sensor

-01218 pass side airbag igniter

-P1561 quantity adjuster, control difference
-P1550 charge pressure, controll difference

its more than just the right rear sensor she bought 2 summers ago lol. here is what i found lookin up the 2 CELs
http://dtcsearch.com/P1561/
http://dtcsearch.com/P1550/

found this out for the airbag light

any help is greatly appreciated!

Mk4 problems!! My brake light may flash all the time…

The wheel speed sensors are cake to do. In the rear-check to see if the ring that’s on the hub is rusty and out of round as if it is you’ll need to fix those. Easiest thing-throw on a new rear hub as that includes the ring and takes about 5 minutes. Passanger side air bag ignitor-if my shitty memory is correct-I had to swap in a seat belt when one of my cars had that code. You have to pull off the plastic trim over inside on the rockers, the trim that covers the B pillar, and some other little bs. As for you CEL codes-no idea as I’m well versed in TDi’s. All I’ve ever done to them are glow plugs and harnesses.

Thank you sir. Seems pretty simple, let’s hope the CELs are easy as well!

well, finally tackled some more issues! got rid of the CEL! I bought a turbo rebuild kit, wg and the other 3 stock injectors that needed to be changed after i changed one of the pp520s that were in the car. i also have a new stock ecu on the way. on to some rusty/rot hole wg and dirty turbo! (I used this as a guide for the turbo rebuild http://www.uniquecoaches.com/upholstery.html)

it really wasn’t too bad. the only pita part, was getting the cast parts, apart. it was a lot of heating/cooling. starts, and runs good now, can hear the turbo spoolin up now that theres no holes in the wg haha

still gotta put the axle in that i had to remove to drop the turbo out. also, the flex pipe has started to come apart. the meshy part slid down, ill prolly end up just wrapping it with exhaust wrap i got kicking around for now. i mite do cat delete, the exhaust in general is rusty and shitty all except the side pipe.

i have a lot of other bs work i’ll be doing… got a new driver rear door, trunk, side mirror covers (chromy ones have to go), clean up foggy headlights, adjust shifter cables, misc bushings. just another never ending project haha

projects are called that for a reason. only finished project is a sold one lol.

new ecu is in, had sasquach (thanks again dude!) stop by with vagcom to double check to see if it was coded for a 5 speed. Gotta get a jump on the other bs that needs to be done and get it reg/ins and start getting some diesel mpgzzzzzzz!

If I’m not mistaken diesels don’t have to pass emissions, I could be wrong tho.
