i guess this could be a general thread about it, but i want to ask a specific question.
who here has gotten bills from the ETR and not paid them?
i have a few bills and obviously i am going to wait at least 90 days to pay it, but i would like to know what happens.
i have heard that they can take your license or some BS, but how can they do that if it is privately owned?
anyways, lets not get into what we HEARD can happen, instead i’d like to know peoples actual experiences.
any other discussion on the 407 could be neat as well.
i’m really surprised to see so many police officers on there during the day. i must have seen 8 officers one day in brampton / ssuaga in the afternoon a few weeks back
Every time you go on with a different plate in your name, they open a SEPERATE ACCOUNT…
SO I had been paying my Pathfinder account from forever long ago… had like… $300 credit on the account, and I got a notice saying I owe money on my 300ZX account and GTR account… wtf? So I called them and they consolidated everything.
Just a heads up… pay CLOSE attention to the account number you are paying. This is more of an issue for online bill payment.
As for not paying, since I had “not been paying” my 300ZX/GTR accounts, they sent it to a collection agency. So… no, I dont think they can take your license.
I had the same thing as nite. They can’t take your license but they can stop you from renewing your plates or license, just like an unpaid ticket. It was one of the agreements the government made when they sold the 407. I wouldn’t worry about it until you need to renew something.
I very, very rarely use the 407 maybe twice a year and I get on for free! I just use my State of New York license plates when ever I need to use it. Tourists use it for free. And I am a tourist from New York…now which way to the CNN tower?..EH?..eh?..eh?..your Canadian eh? You have a dog sled eh?..Do you have electricity way up in Canada eh? You go snowboarding in July in Toronto eh? Do you know Mike from Canada eh?
Anyway to answer Bings question now. No you don’t lose your license but they will add interest and if you still don’t pay then you will get a call from their collection agency who will keep bothering you and if you ignore them they will see to it that no bank or financial institution in Canada will not even lend you $1.00 oh yeah and if you continue to use the 407 without paying they can report to MTO and then you will not be able to renew the sticker on your license plates or your license without paying off your balance.
My friends from Ohio got billed on the ETR and, if you notice, the highway has signs along the route stating clearly: Out of Province Users Will Be Billed.
If you got away with it using NY plates… are those plates valid and registered to anyone?
That’s because the 407 commission, by law, has to pay the province to patrol the highway. That’s why you see so many OPP and MTO cruisers on it all the time.
I personally despise using the highway and the consortium that owns it. As it were, if the Government hadn’t sold the highway it would have already paid itself off and become a free “non-toll” route by now.
On a side note, when I owned my previous '95 240 I used to bury the needle on a regular basis. Mind you, that was when they had just finished building the extension to Hamilton and it was 2 in the morning…I was really surprised at how well the car held up at such speed though.
No they are not. I wouldn’t use them if they were lol. The only crapy thing about using them is that I have to drive very carefully and no faster then 105kms/h other wise I could get in big shit. So that’s why I don’t use the 407, I would rather use the 401 and have no fear of getting in shit for doing something illegal.
Personally I think the 407 is a rip off and at most times it’s not moving any faster then the 401, outside of the GTA area it moved prety good but between 404 and 410 it can get ugly sometimes, one of the worst traffic jams I was even stuck in was on the 407 like a year ago and I was so happy I was on for free because I would of been really pissed if I had to pay to get stuck in a traffic jam like the rest of those suckers.
manatoba and pei do not get charged for 407…how do i know this? my girlfriend is from manitoba, has a MANATOBA plate on her car, drives on the 407 ALL the time and has never ONCE received a bill for it. Either at her current address or her parents address.
AND… i dont have to pay for it anyways, the company does.
its principle, having to pay to use a highway as if the XX% of our wages doesnt contribute enough to the maintenance of highways.
jeez…
if everyone were like u guys and afraid of pissing people off in favour of what is fair and just then we’d all be living at the whim of major corporations and futile government…
But you have to remember, that is not a GOV’t run HWY, I am sure if you Owned it you would want to I do not know, Make money.
It is a buisness and buisness need income.
If you don’t want to pay you can’t play, Run the Free Hwy’s then, your Tax dollars do make you able to sue them for free.
