the Actual Work-Out thread

Thanks man! This was a milestone I didn’t think I’d get to this quickly, but I’m not complaining. Currently I can rep 315 for sets of 8-10, which isn’t too shabby considering I weigh in the 215-220 range but very lean.

Real solid stuff for your size, I am working on the getting lean part of the equation. I am looking to drop another 15 to 20 lbs by April (currently down -109ish but that is for the other thread).
Looking like I could get a sponsered or at least some free equipment from the Burn Machine since I have been using it during this whole process. The stuff will probably be used a bunch on the ultimate fighter since Brock and his coaches use it a bunch and he is coaching. The MMA guys all use the speedbag but the universal is great for supersets.

Im really surprised at how little you guys weigh lol, I’m at 198lbs right now

People think I’m 230+ when they look at me (upper body). I would probably weigh that much if I did legs religiously. All of my body weight is upper body, lol.

Yeah your arms are the size of my thighs lol

just for the record check my post time, and travis’ edit time…

if anyone is looking for a crazy deal on dumbbells, i bought some off ebay. 5-100lb dumbbells, in increments of 5lbs, for 240 shipped! adjustable dumbbells of that weight are like +800 bucks and hex dumbbells would be like 3k bucks.

the only catch is theyre screwed dumbbell bars. still a crazy deal tho.

question:
When benching, which is better: A) lower all the way to your chest, basically bouncing the bar off your chest… or B) Lower till your elbows are at about 90° (i’d say leaving a good 6 inches between the bar and your chest)

I do B, I notice with A, I feel like I’m getting a break once I pass the 90° mark, and I use more momentum to raise.

Proper technique is lowering the bar completely to your chest. If you’re stopping with your arms at 90*, you are cheating your chest of the entire point of the exercise which is to hit the pecs, lol.

You should not be bouncing off your chest, it should be a controlled lift where you just touch your chest, hold for a second, and then press back up.

Yeah you go to go deep to get the full benefit, also like bladez said, a controlled lift is also important, should be the same speed going down as it is going up.

well, after reading up on some of this ive become depressed. lol i only get to the gym maybe 1x a week and mainly try to get a lil bit of everything done. my bench routine is typicaly start around 225 x6 then 245x6 then 275 for 3-4 then 295 max possible reps, then i work down in reverse order maxing out reps with zero breaks to keep heart rate up. then ill do some tri’s and other misc stuff. i realy wish i could find the motivation to lift like i used to have. right nowmy current work schedule and watching my daughter has pretty much killed all my extra time.

Anyone a member at golds in lancaster at french/transit? ive been a member since it opened up about 10yrs ago, however ive beeb considering world gym lately due to there 24hr access. I need a work out partner to help keep me motivated.

I’m there almost every morning starting around 7-8am @ transit and french Golds.

same thing happened to me when i went to golds, i always went by myself and just lost all motivation. cancelled my membership and called it quits for almost 2 years.

i recently started back up again with ken and jesse at fit 19 on transit and my motivation is 10x higher than it ever was working out with them two.

I never played sports or hung out with many people and was mainly into mtn biking by myself, so I find it’s sometimes easier to lift by myself. get more done, with less distractions. been working out with another guy lately, and it’s a good match, we go back and forth and push ourselves more, but I’ve gotten a long way by myself before now.

Anyone in this thread doing crossfit? I’ve started that in September and have lost 30lbs while getting my DL to 450. It makes working out actually enjoyable to me

I’m almost to the point where I could even concieve taking on a crossfit WOD, they’re pretty intense. Fry was talking about it a while ago.

Put up 195lbs 2x + 1 spotted rep. You guys make me feel weak :frowning: I only weigh like 155lbs though.

start eating, EVERYTHING. i dunno if youre out to gain mass or not, but thats what im doing right now. i was 153 i think when i started with them.

im already up 10lbs from starting with ken and jesse, but its a different story with them two, just look at them lol. im cramming a little over 200g of protein into me a day, along with creatine and vitamins.

I’d like to get big, but I’m not motivated enough to stay consistent, I’m not providing myself with proper nutrition, last year I got up to almost 170lbs, but my stomach looked horrible, once I’m in corrections I’ll just workout and eat since I’ll be down state away from my friends. You’ll get big with those monsters! Lol

200g of protein is not a lot… you need more than that each day.
