Brian sounds like you need a notebook. I used to use one, but have since laxed, and just planned my week out in my head. But if you’re out to make big gains, a regiment is key.
If your arms are getting that sore when you are cleaning, you need to re-eval the second pull phase of it. If anything you need to drop under the bar(pull under as opposed to many people pulling the bar to them) better yet or try to improve the large group activation into solid triple extension during that second pull.
Anyone on here do Crossfit??
lol crossfit
haha. at least your sore from doing real exercises. whats your body weight? im super happy when i can get 185 for more than… anything.
kipping pull ups piss me off.
Kipping and locking out, vs. swinging around like an r-tard are two different things. 90% of people who “claim” to do crossfit, don’t… 9% are legitimately trying, and the 1% own a “Crossfit” gym and are overcharging out the ass. They’re full of pure fail and will either hurt themselves or get discouraged b/c they can’t do more than the first exercise of the WOD. Hearing Crossfit at the gym, and then watching the complete and utter bullshit they’re doing is mind boggling. You better have some serious sack and have a solid base before you even try, let alone utter the name.
Yeah, pretty much.
Crossfit is cool for the average person who wants to do something more interesting than a treadmill or sit on weight machines. It introduces them to oly lifts, squats and deadlifts. But the cult of Crossfit and the ego of it all gets annoying. No one gets bigger, faster or stronger doing Crossfit. They just beat themselves up with high reps of bad form.
I saw some 110lb wiry kid with a WOD KILLER shirt on, oh this is going to be good. Starts cold with a 135lb clean and jerk something or other and loses it half way up in his twisting jerking motion and almost drops the bar on someone getting up from a bench. Someone would have gotten really hurt… He was asked to GTFO
Interesting POV. Ive def seen my fair share of people at the gym failing on WOD’s or trying to look like they do crossfit. Coming from someone who did the chest day, arms day etc for years I know how Crossfit looks to everyone around you. Bunch of crazy fucks going way too fast. I’ve been doing WOD’S every day now for 2 months at Crossfit Buffalo with proper instruction and training and I have to say honestly it’s amazing. You never do the same thing twice and the intensity is really unrivaled compared to just walking into a gym and doing your own thing. I’m not sitting here bashing on the haters or saying that what you guys do is stupid. All I’m saying is for everyone whose hating on it, try it once. Crossfit is fun and exciting and so far I’ve never once encountered an ego compared to at Golds where all the meatheads collaborate. Let me know if anyone ever does wanna try it.

I started doing crossfit back in October and it’s ridiculously intense. I hate running and most forms of traditional cardio, but cardio and overall body shock is what i’ve needed. I don’t care what others say who have never tried a few full crossfit WOD’s. It has allowed me to break the mold i have been guilty for years… doing the excercises that i’m good at and cycling only through a few different excercises for each muscle group. No workout is ever the same and i feel like i’m going to die nearly everytime. The crossfit environment also pushes you to be competative with others as well as yourself mentally.
Proper form here is key and maintaing it through exhaustion.
Kipping gets a bad rap (understandably so), and if i saw somebody doing it in the gym without crossfit knowledge i would think they are retarded and it looks equivilent to the douchebag throwing/dropping weights with no form. The reality, i haven’t pefected the kip yet, but you need to look at it deeper than just throwing your body around. kipping takes a lot of core control, including your legs to ever get the rythm down. Without it, you just swing. With pull ups specifically, I’ve had the most difficult time of breaking my habit of slow up, slow down like a standard controlled pull up.
granted it’s not for everyone…but i’ve gained about 8lbs since doing crossfit the last 2 months and the mirror shows that i’m losing the fat.
I’ve been working out to some degree for nearly 15 years and have gone through my phases of cardio and weight lifting but i have NEVER had intense workouts like i have been over the last couple months. I’m currently doing crossfit 3 days a week and will start incorporating weight lifting on my off days for a complete package. As of right now, i’ve been too sore to lift on my off-days.
There’s absolutely no progression, no periodization, or taper in their program. It’s HI! welcome to crossfit, grab on that bar and start deadlifting! Lift that bar till you collapse! We completely ignore your body type, how you and your body react, recover and develop, WOD is LAW!!! It breeds over training, and ends in injury and loses so many people “who can’t hang”.
are you kidding? That’s such a blind blanket statement.
Have you actually been to one or done a single WOD? And if you have actually gone to one…they aren’t all created equal. Every single day i’ve gone there has been a deep lesson in the proper technique because every day there are new and novice people. In addition to the prescription excercise (Rx) multiple alternatives are given for many verying degrees of intesity based on skill level, fitness level, age, and mobiltiy.
before i started i was given a physical and had to demonstrate my level of fitness. “WOD is Law!!” is the dumbest general statement.
At my place, each WOD is planned to coordinate and compliment with the previous WOD’s. And let’s be honest, the best thing you can do for your body if you want results is to constantly shock and confuse it. Doing the same routines over and over again like most “lifters” do at the gym isn’t as effective in the long term. Like-wise…when i can do the Rx crossfit routines without feeling like i’m being challanged, i’ll move on to something different.
there are several excercises that i can’t do properly yet and have to choose an alternative excercise/movement. I have watched veteren top physical athletes absoutley winded after a single WOD. Crossfit isn’t for everybody, but it’s no joke.
bottom line, like with any workout or excercise:
1.) You need to know your limits.
2.) You need to know how to perform the excercise properly.
3.) LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR if you don’t want to get hurt.
What type of results? Fat loss? Muscle growth? Speed or strength increase? Mobility? Crossfit is good at taking a person and making them smaller while building some endurance. It won’t make you bigger, faster or stronger. But it’s all about what you want to accomplish.

Results for me are to lose 10% body fat while maintaining my muscle mass and strenghthening my core. It’s more of a Cardio/mobility excercise, yes…i agree. That has been my battle in the past… trying to bulk up muscle vs. cut the fat…both oppose each other for the most part.
I have been feeling TONS better (living in Palm Beach helps) and have been shopping for small clothes all while having gained about 8lbs since i have started, so my muscle mass isn’t decreasing. I’ll wait until my 3 month mark before i revisit my actual measurements/tests.
i’m not training for anything specific, i just want to like what i see in the mirror. So specifically to say increased speed or mobility, i really don’t care.
FOR ME to meet my goals… I want to do crossfit for about 6-8 months slowly working lifting back into my routine and then start getting back into heavier lifting while working light cardio into my ‘off days’ to maintain the fat loss.
People who do cardio for fat loss… lol
lifting burns more calories and will lower your fat percentage and increase your muscle mass more, than cardio. cardio AND lifting is counter-productive as fuck.
if you want to do cardio, then say you’re doing it to maintain a healthy lifestyle , not to lose fat. there are far superior ways of doing it.
Fry loves the Paleo solution. I’ve had a ton of enlightening conversations working at a gym about crossfit. It’s a quick easy way to get hurt… Most people have the same issues with it, and a good % of crossfitters aren’t actually doing crossfit, which is a good thing.
i was getting bored with doing weighted pull ups, or just pull ups to failure, so i started doing these. i was inspired by jump squats and clapping push ups.
