The B-body Project

Ok. I think I’ve lost my mind. I need some advice here. I have a 1995 Chevy Caprice Police Car that I was going to sell. I’m thinking about keeping it now because one of my friends is selling a motor that has literally 20 miles on it and is giving me a pretty good deal on it. I want to put this engine into the car and fix up the exterior.

But before I go doing all of this I want to know how much it will cost to fix up the body of the car. It has it’s share of rust having seen many Buffalo winters, but it’s really not awful. There is some damage to the passengers side rear quarter panel because someone slid into it two winters ago. There is also some minor damage on the passengers front quarter panel where it fell off a lift getting the brakes done. That also isn’t too bad, but it’s there. Other than that, just normal rust. Nothing crazy though. What kind of body shop would fix things like this? I really don’t need anything crazy. This isn’t going to be a show car. I just want it to be nice to drive in the summers. This car will be for speed, not show. I plan on painting it the original white. No fancy paintjob.

Any input is greatly appreciated. I just want a ballpark on what this may cost. If the bodywork isn’t going to cost too much, I’m going to go ahead with the project. If it’s going to cost too much, I’ll probably end up selling the car.

the list

used hood and fenders, i expect some rust to be lurking in the doors, and the quickest easiest way to do that 1/4 would be a partial patch using a junkyard 1/4

then its just small dents primer and paint

if your going white, white paint is hard to screw up … as bad as you can manage to paint it would still look good in the sun … so a cheap paintjob doesnt do much harm lookswise

Why fix it?

make it fast and leave it haggrid.

This is what I have come to decide on with most cars
Once you fix it, someone will fuck it up for you
If its fucked, no one bothers.

But
Good luck
I always wanted an fast badass interceptor
Just for kicks really.

90s style Impala SS sleeper…i dig it!

Sell it and get something non automatic to play with

Apparently a 6 speed swap isn’t too hard to do on these. Although I was thinking about leaving it auto. Haven’t decided yet.

Anyone know a body shop that would fix this without bending me over?

From the looks of it I wouldnt bother fixing, the cost more to fix this car would probably be much more than just finding a better rust free example with low mileage. If this is a ex cop car everything on it is probably beat to shit and tired.

just from the looks of the first pic, i would say its not worth fixing… i had to get rid of a project for the same reason, rust sucks

replace every body panel you can with rust free junkyard replacements, do the rear quarter patch like hotrod said, bondo, prime, go to earl shribe for a nice cheap paintjob. hotrod will probably even do the bondo and rear quarter for you for a good price. swap the rest of the panels yourself.

EDIT: o yea, buy his t-70 turbo for that ish :snky:

there’s just something inherently cool about ex-cop cars, especially when they are made bad-ass and just look fucking mean.

-edit- and oddly enough, there’s just something lame about cars that are made to look like cop cars. usually a sports car with shiny black and white paint and big fucking gumballs. :gay:
