As you all can see I have a banner at the top of the site. The Computer Guy is not my business but the business I work for. I and the owner Dave know a couple of the guys from around here. I myself personally have helped quite a few members and have gotten a few word of mouth referrals and decided to place an ad on shift.
The Computer Guy has been in business since 2004, doing mostly In house repairs and services for residential and business clients, last August the store here in Halfmoon/Clifton Park was opened. We cater to both in house calls for residential and small business as well as on site repairs here at the shop located on Route 9.
Some of our services include but not limited to:
- Virus Removals**
- Clean Ups
- Hardware and Software installations
- DC Jack repairs on laptops
- Laptop Screen replacements
- Consulting
- In-Home service
- Network setups
- Data Backup
- Data Retrieval
- Free Diagnostics in store
- Wiring
If you have any questions concerning something that is not listed here please feel free to PM me personally or call the store. Monday-Friday 9:00AM to 4:30PM chances are you will be talking to me directly.
All shift members will get 20% off our services in store. Most issues are set at a flat rate price, while in home service is charged hourly with a 1 hour minimum. If the issue(s) are resolved before the hour is filled, we will stay and do whatever else we can so that your time is not wasted and the hour is filled.
We have an extensive checklist we go through on every machine that comes in for clean ups/virus removals, as well as a bunch of free tools we include and train on if needed to help keep you from having to come back to us or anyone else for that matter. We treat every customer machine like our own, hands down one of the main reasons why I enjoy it here and like my boss. Every Machine gets blown out for dust/wiped down to add just that extra touch.
Got a question, need some advice or want a quick check to see what’s going on with your machine, stop in the store or call and I’ll be more than happy to help.
**Viruses are hitting big time lately, be sure to make sure your virus software is current and everything is up to date (operating systems, flash, java etc.) Many are appearing as an anti-virus, some are blatantly fakes and others are masking themselves as big names such as Symantec/Norton or Mcafee.
If you pay for anti-virus, you shouldn’t need to, if your subscriptions are coming to an end please consider a free alternative, they may not include some of the bells and whistles the big shots do, but nothing that another program, or what’s built into your operating system doesn’t do already.
Here are a couple programs I recommend:
Microsoft Security Essentials – A few months ago we started using this on our customers machines instead of Avast, we’ve put it on hundreds of machines and so far have had great success with it, and our loyal customers have had a much better experience with it. Especially with some rootkits that others do not detect and cannot clean, more specifically Alurion.
Avast – Some lower end machines we still use Avast, its foot print is small, while I feel that it is somewhat inferior to MSE its still a really good Anti-Virus solution.
Spybot S&D – Every machine should have Spybot on it, it’s not an antivirus but an anti-spyware/malware scanner, and is always good to run in conjunction with your full time Anti-virus
Malwarebytes – Like Spybot , every machine should have it, while not an anti-virus it is a great anti-spyware/malware tool, scans do take longer than Spybot but detects things Spybot or your regular Anti-Virus May not.
Virus removals are something we do a lot of, we are extremely quick and thorough.
