Do those countries have all the other fun taxes we have like sales, payroll and property? I am curious how we really stack up after every tax for every nation is added up.
I would like to know the data on people who drive brand new cars, or have 22" rimz on their POS and then complain about not getting free health insurance.
Only playing devils advocate but it seems anti-american to limit someones profit. If I were to start a health care company (ahem, a business)I would be out to make a profit. For someone to step in and say I can only operate barely in the black seems wrong.
I am NOT saying what he have now is right or good by any means, but there has to be a middle ground. I have had decent health care my whole life, whether through parents or work. but next year I am going back to school and probably wont be working for a place that offers health insurance. I am too old to go back on my parents.
The government steps in to limit someone’s profit when their excessive profit hurts the public. Some examples are anti-trust/monopoly laws, anti-profiteering, and public utilities.
Since I started this thread nearly everyone in the City of Tonawanda has lost their healthcare. By 10:00 tonight everyone in Tonawanda will lose coverage.
Thats the number of people that lose coverage everyday.
EDIT: Everyone in Tonawanda is now without health care.
The ultimate privatized health care plan is a savings account, and you can have it right now. You don’t get to take out more than you’ve put in, but nobody else gets the chance to benefit from your labor. How many of you screaming about fairness and free market blah blah blah have opted for this over a traditional insurance plan?
If you have insurance you have it in case you need more money than you’ve put in. In exchange for the insurance company risking that they’ll have to pay you more than you put in, you risk putting in more than you’ll need. But for most of us it’s better to take the smaller risk with higher probability than the huge risk with low probability.
What does this have to do with the argument at hand? Nothing, other than this debate would be a hell of a lot more productive if we would all realize that none of us operate on principle alone, but a combination of ambition and principle.
Dude you realize that most people agree SOMETHING needs to be done it is just not everyone wants a govt ran setup. This is to include Republicans, Democrats, and the people who don’t play the silly party game. But again you come in here like you have not read a single post of what people have said and just try to make a blow at republicans. I will say as a mod I am not going to put anyone on ignore for obvious reasons but I would love to not read your ridiculous posts. Go ahead and feel free to insult me as the two times I have said anything to you you like to toss some put down or insult my way.
Insult what? Have you seen the GOP strategy on this? They have no plan to fix healthcare, they never did, they never will because they are tied to too many interests other than the peoples.
What don’t you like about my post, studies show that nearly 15,000 people a day lose healthcare in this country. All I’m doing is showing how this number would reflect if it were just in WNY. And I will continue to do so.
Sad thing is, under this rate it will take only 20 days to add up to the total number of people in Buffalo.
Just tell me what you think should be done? Give me the alternative solution so my choices aren’t between a government run program and nothing.
I would gladly pay more taxes if it meant cheaper insurance rates. I dont think alot of you guys realize how much health insurance has risen and what its expected to be in a few years at the current rate. I am paying 64$ a week for my wife and daughter, and its expected to double if not triple in the next couple years, well that is if my employer even offers insurance anymore at that point.
I know my wages will not be increased to match cost of living let alone rediculous insurance rates.
Something needs to be done and Obama’s plan is better then no plan. While Bush was busy chasing oil in iraq he shoulda been spending the billions of dollars here on health care reform. The republicans plan has worked out great for the last 8 yrs.:fail:
The current health care system isn’t a true free market one. I can move to California and keep my Geico car insurance, but I can’t keep my Blue Cross / Blue Shield health plan. The GOP plan was to make that possible to increase competition and choice. Then they wanted to offer a tax credit at the end of the year for those who purchased health insurance. Something like $2,500 for families, $1,500 for individuals or something along those lines. I don’t remember the exact numbers.
'cmon Tom, this was all over the news.
Everyone agrees changes are needed, but not everyone agrees the government needs to go into the health care biz.
That was McCain’s plan. He got blown out of the water. The Republicans in Congress just bitch about the current plan but still haven’t offered an alternative bill.
Just because something isn’t perfect doesn’t mean you need initiate a half-assed solution.
Sorry I(we) am not eager to let the govt grab control of 1/6th of the economy. Big surprise I know.
That plan was to tax existing employer-based healthcare plans and to give families a $5k tax credit if they went out and bought their own.
Since the average family plan now cost between $11k-$12k that would mean that families would have to make up the difference, between $6k-$7k.
The average worker doesn’t contribute more than $4k a year in their employer based program and now would be taxed the rest of the cost of their coverage as income.
That plan sucks and does nothing to help the current problem, thats why no one has brought it up in this debate.
But you would much rather that 1/6th of the economy be controlled by the corporate greed that would much rather see you die in a car accident than be injured in one.
^^Now you really do sound like Obama when he talked about getting hit by a bus, that is not covered by HEALTHcare. It is covered by AUTO insurance.:picard: Did you go to Harvard as well?
