The LS1 is heavy....

5.0 HO BRO

The tranny is a large chunk of the weight difference, and thats positioned in the center of the car , more or less.

So with a ka-t versus a ls1, even with the 100-150lb difference, weight distribution isn’t effected all that much.

They both sit behind strut towers in more less the same position.

So at the end of the day, even with the slight added weight, which is a good thing in a s13, less understeer, its worth it to have 300rwtq from god knows how low of an rpm.

I still love my sr20 though…

…I want one. fuuurrriiick.

Started reading about more LS swaps, addicted to them now like Hammertown kids on crack.

Yes any LS motor stock to stock is heavier than a KA.

Yes, my finished LQ9 setup WILL be lighter than a finished KA-T setup. (the LS1TECH dude still had cast manifolds too :S)

KA24DE dry weight with no clutch, flywheel, harness weighs 371 lbs. Flywheel is 21 lbs, clutch is whatever, harness weighs a bit, oil and coolant can weigh 10-15lb - they’re not too far off. Documented weight of the LS1 is 460 lbs.

And finally - Adam, I know you know better than this - you said a KA, SR and VQ all weigh within one lb of each other and are 330 lbs?? Tsk tsk lol

^This sounds like car pr0n

Oh and if i recall the LS1 flywheel is like 51, 52lbs ? or was it 58lbs…? something ridiciulous… There’s so many ways to make it all lighter… The spec flywheels weigh like 12lbs for LS1s if i recall… been a while since i lookd any of this stuff up.

I was the first to rant about how awesome LS v8s are, but I’ll probably be the last to get one rolling at the moment lol. Car project work and racing all on hold for quite some time until i get other priorities sorted

Would love to get a ride in one on track…ffffawk ya

LOL!!!^^^

well basically getting a lighter flywheel and getting rid of the anchor stock one… and getting a lightweight carbon hood would def make u not care for 100lbs more. Especially if you can get the motor to make 400-450whp NA with mod and tuning… it’s a no brainer…
