The next fad in Resto-Mod

following up on my haterade for muscle cars from the boot car thread :)… thought i would make a new thread for this.

yeah i hate muscle cars but do like the resto-mod trend where you take classic cars and refresh them with modern damping, brakes, wheels, engines etc… very common to do this with muscle cars and other classic american stuff ie: @cougarspeed.

now, last week i was at Engineered Automotive where my buddy Dan Pye is the GM… many of you dudes know him from his U2NDyno days

This place is the Canadian Mecca for unobtanium automotibilia. They had this CRAZY car in the building that bodes towards a whole other concept of resto-mod

This is some kind of vintage Ferrari roadster… don’t know which but you start in the deep $X00,000 just to get the chassis in whatever state. It has coilovers has Brembos and new tires etc…

notice on the hood the clear engine bay cover… it is showing off a BMW V12 with ITB’s making 500+ rwhp out of a 740IL

The whole body of the car was ‘hand-banged’ as they described to exaggerate the body style… there are leather buckles for the trunk, hood and various other pagani-esque features on the car…

It was built for Barrett-Jackson with the hopes of garnering $1.XM but it didnt sell and some lucky CDN dude picked it up for half the build cost… the world is not ready for classic resto-mod ferraris apparently.

They also had a full resto Ferrari 250gt ($1.4M BJ estimate) and a clean red Porsche 959 in the shop.

OMG, you found a car modification style that perfectly suits your watch modification style! Taking timeless classics and making them completely worthless.

However this is much better than your Hummer H2 theory

oh come on… that ferrari in stock form would be nice but not awesome… why spend that kind of money only to be not awesome?

Hmm.

I thought you were talking about the Porsche with the dully rims in the rear until I took a closer look at it.

Lol that will never be a fad, no rich asshole is that dumb to buy a modded classic that was ruined.

Why ruin a real rare car when you can probably pay someone to build a kit car of the car which won’t ruin the rare original numbers matching one of a kind car.

So what… It’s just a car

There is no way that M70 is making 500+whp NA. 0.0% chance.

Dan’s words not mine dude… maybe not rwhp?

750

looks more like a hand crafted body on a modern chassis, someone would have to be a real idiot to resto mod a classic Ferrari

The value of stupidity has continued to drop over the years mostly due to the overwhelming available supply.

Supposed to look something like this?

oh wow yeah, that is basically exactly it… the rear bodywork around the gas filler was off when i snapped the pic.

here is a shot of the engine bay that popped up on EA’s feed

shop tour.

featuring the car in question around 2:25

Soooo it’s not a resto-mod, it’s not a Ferrari, it doesn’t have 500whp+. Kinda missing what all the “excitement” is about. Basically just a ladder/tube frame kit car with some nice looking bodywork.

hey man, i repeated what i was told and I’m not certain the commentary in the video was accurate either.
