It is such a lot of work, but it is so fucking bad ass, I want to do this. I have been fapping over Brian’s Evo “Lana” for the past year or so. Brian (Most-Wanted) holds a bunch of records including the fastest stock turbo (10.2 @ 133), was the fastest fp red (9.5 @ 145), and now the fastest fp 86 (9.0 @ 157). His car on the 86 made 800+ whp and almost 600 ft/lb. It weighs in at around 2400 pounds, and is caged and certified to 8.50.
I still like to drive my car on the street, so I won’t ever get as light as he did, but I want to keep taking weight out. I am currently one of the lightest Evos around, but I need to do a cage next, so that will suck adding weight in. Anyways, look at the front end of his car:
It is absolutely awesome having it tubed like that. He is able to remove his bumper and have full access to the front of the engine, making working on anything a piece of cake! He was able to remove the core support, the hood latch, the lower radiator support, a few inches of the frame horns, etc… Weight loss is minimal, but working on the car becomes a breeze.
I of course will be keeping my headlights and such, but I am looking into how much I can remove and make it similar. Maybe I could even have those quick disconnect I am not sold on it yet, but it is so bad ass, I am trying to convince myself to take the plunge!
The car is already very heavily modded, and will be sold as a race car or parted out when the day comes when/if I get rid of it. I am not to worried about affecting the resale value. I have significantly less than 30k into the entire car, at least half of which I could sell in parts, and then of course the value of the car itself. I paid cash for it, so it’s all just fun at this point.
I have a million things I want to do to the car, but it all comes down to money and time. Over the winter I am definitely going to build a motor for it, and while it’s all apart would be the perfect time to do this side project
There has to be better ways to spend your money, since you are going to be driving it on the street and it is not a dedicated track car, I would not do that.
but if you end up caging the car then you will gain some of your safety back, just make sure there is protection of the engine coming thru the firewall.
I have to agree here. after seeing how a friends integra got totaled from a very minor accident I lost all interest in removing the nearly 100lbs of crash supports in my SHO.
dont know if you have done it yet, but take out all your sound deadening, everything else
there are far better ways to save weight than hacking your car
