The Trump Presidency Discussion Thread (Non-Meme version)

@LZ feel free to input your thoughts about the long term benefits to the country of this bill.

I truly don’t care…8 years for our economy and politics is a VERY long time.

Ah okay. Just go back to posting useless shit about democrats without actually understanding the topics.

But really, it’s something that I hope you actually do care about. This is a huge shift for the country.

It’s pretty simple we will find out what happens in the next couple years…If its horrible boom democrats get elected and change the tax code.

I realize you think everything is literally the end of the world but its really not bad that.

C’mon. That’s the complacency that results in elected officials who get away with shit that doesn’t help their constituents.

Stay involved. Stay informed. It’s better for everyone that way.

How so? People I wanted elected lowered my taxes for at least the next 8 years…

Companies I work for/with with also have to pay lower taxes

If you’re only hang up with the tax bill is what happens in 8 years awesome because most of the time there are many many other issues people find. If that was what they had to do to make it pass

To me it makes sense to have the corporate rates stay lower as companies are typically planning 5-10+ years ahead at a minimum. If that was set to change after say 5-8 years none of them would even think about reinvesting here. But when you show that you intend to keep it low, it becomes way more likely.

In the mean time Ill take the extra couple G a year and spend it on car parts.

AT&T Backs Plan To Invest $1 Bln In US In 2018 If Tax Bill Is Signed Into Law

Awesome.

Not to be cynical, but I guarantee that they will be the exception and not the rule. Only $1.499 Trillion to go!

Itll be fun to see how much debt is added over the next 8 years compared to the last 8.

#Boeing announces $300M employee-related and charitable investment as a result of #TaxReform legislation to support our heroes, our homes and our future.

I REALLY hope that this tax cut works as designed.

Like anyone else, I dislike that it expires, but they had to play by certain rules to pass the legislation. For now, I’ll appreciate the break that it gives me.

And

In politics you craft your message to the largest group, this is not suprising and both sides do this.

Yep, that’s me. But we can’t know the full impact.

You forgot the “over 10 years” part. So $150 Billion each year. Under Obama we racked up about $1 Trillion a year. So we’re increasing that by roughly 15%.

Remember,

So in a way the anticipation of a Trump tax bill was already working even before being signed

The shareholders are the average workers. If you have a 401k, retiremnt plan, etc where do you think your money is going? Certinaly not into non-profits.

I personally know someone who, because of the enconomic growth that we agree has resulted from hopes of this bill, will be able to retire at least 1 year sooner. They don’t make a lot of money. But they do have retiremnt investments that have been positivly impacted.

Man, I really wish I knew which companies were going to get greedy over this because I’d buy more of their stock now

Good discussion. You don’t have to compare things to the Obama era for me. I don’t like the way democrats do things either.

I completely understand your perspective on this. I think we agree on most of this aside from the effect it will have long term. I would correct your last statement to say:

To me, this bill is a thinly veiled bonus for rich people. I’ve been an advocate for lowering the corporate tax rate this whole time, so I can dig that. The temporary middle class cuts were as you described, a political appeasement and a way to meet the requirements while still giving the breaks to highest earners.

Edit - that’s great PR for AT&T. Only $1.4988 Trillion to go!

Only $1.4985 Trillion to go!

It’s been what?? 3 hours?

should be under-par by June of next year at this rate

Wait, so the fact that I will receive $1400 refundable tax credit for every child is going to be helpful for the rich and not me how?

Also JCT numbers show middle class getting most of it with 14% to the “wealthy”.

Who cares though when we all make Buffalo great again in a few years from the billions we get in crypto profits?

 I hope so. The problem is that we won’t know if this is truly good or bad for years. So keep posting PR stunts I guess.

I can assure you that I don’t want this to be a bad thing. It’s just no secret what it was really trying to do.
