It doesn’t, though. It may make somebody quicker, but that’s not really “better” on the open road with other drivers.
Fair enough…but I honestly dont see the point of your threads…so maybe if there was a decipher code book or something on amazon…I can get that on my xmas list right next to a compass and car facts.
Just digging yourself deeper. Anyone that claims autocross will not make you a better driver on the street is showing their true automotive ignorance. Autocross teaches you the maneuvers that get you out of trouble on the street.
- Threshold braking.
- Evasive driving. Dodging the idiot that pulls out in front of you is no different than dodging a cone. They are both basically stationary, and both will require you to swerve at speed and remain in control.
A lot of the time I think your posts are very well thought out and witty, but this ^is a pretty dumb statement. Better reaction time, and knowing where the limits of your car are, definitely makes you a better driver.

Okay.
People generally like to believe that their actions are useful. This is more true when they invest a great deal of time an effort. So, if they can somehow justify it with, “Oh, it’s useful _______” then it makes them feel adequate.
This has nothing to do with if it makes somebody a better driver. It has everything to do with cognitive dissonance.
