yeah it’s really sad around here right now. i personally didn’t know the guy but i had seen him and his car a few times. he was an avid “street racer” and was known for it, but the conclusion those close to him are saying is that there is no way he was racing at the time because of the road he wrecked on (not a road they ever race on) and that fact that his girlfriend was with him. he never raced with her in the car with him, but it doesn’t look good when the police say he hit the pole going 100 mph. so it’s hard to say. if i’m remembering correctly, i think a few guys i know were talking about him a few days earlier. one said that he just got a new motor put in the car that he got built from japan and cost him in the neighborhood of $7000. the car was dynoed and put out around 700 hp i think. i’m thinking he is the one they were talking about cause it all makes sense. especially if he lost control while accelerating under high boost. the guy rode in the car with him last week said the thing spun tires beyond 120 mph and still puilled harder than anything he’d ridden in in awhile, and this guy builds fast f-bodies. his name is tracey scott if any of you f-body guys know who i’m talking about. anyway, if that was him with the 700 hp motor, which i think it was, then it would make sense i guess that he lost control considering he wasn’t used to having that much power on a second gen gs-t spyder eclipse. but yes, very sad to hear.

edit: this came from someone that knew him on csr
"Excessive speed + avoiding hitting an animal is the cause of the crash. Joey absolutely loved animals and wouldn’t hit one ever in his car especailly. Head trauma was the cause of death for Joey. The passenger was instantly crushed to death.

This information comes from someone driving behind him when it happened. "
