Think running a Marathon is bad ass?

Well step aside, check this out:

The Beast of Burden 100 Mile/24 Hour Race: either run 100 miles in under 30 hours, or run for 24 straight hours.

This Ultra is not for the faint of heart! Athletes will start at Wide Water’s Marina where they will have access to restrooms and a warming shelter. They will leave the marina and run along a paved trail for approximately 1 mile where they will cross one of Lockport’s historic lift bridges and continue running on the towpath until they’ve reached the turn around 11.5 miles later. There will be a check point and aid station. Athlete’s are encouraged to carry as much supply as they can. Remember, there are roughly 5-6 miles between aid stations. * Due to risks involved with this race we request that each athlete have some ultra experience prior to this race. (Provide proof at time of registration) 100 Mile racers must provide proof of finishing at least one 50 mile event prior to race day.

Course Aid
The main aid station will be located at the start/finish line. You will have approximately 6.5 miles until you reach aid station #2. From this point you will run approximately 6 miles until you reach aid station #3. The main aid station will have a wide variety of snacks and warm foods for you.
We would like to thank Hammer Nutrition for supplying us with course aid.

Cutoff Times
Cutoff times will be strictly enforced, runners must finish in 30 hours (by 1pm on Sunday) for the 100 miler. The 24 hour event goes from 7am to 7am.

Running in the half-marathon this year will be enough of an achievement for me, and a long-term goal for me would be to run the Full Marathon next year. But running FOUR marathons in a row? I cant even imagine what type of training goes into this.

I can’t fathom what would possibly be enjoyable about doing this.

I did this in 08

http://www.highlandercycletour.com/highlander.htm

on my bike. Some sick bastard ran the whole 102 mile course in something like 24 hours I want to say, maybe 29, I don’t know. Anyways, there is a hill at mile 70 that is 23 percent grade for a long stretch and the whole tour has over 12,000 feet of climbing. All I could think about was whomever designed this tour was a sado masicist, making you go up huge hills for no other reason then to make you go up them. I can’t wait to do it again.

fuck. that.

Someone running this is even crazier; the local race is a 25 mile round trip, and you just keep running it. Can’t even imagine the commitment required.

Jesus… the cardio needed to run 100 miles in cold low-oxygen air is basically unfathomable.

How do you even train for that? I’d think there wasn’t enough time in a day to train your lungs for this kind of thing.

All of this work, and jogging is still bad for your knees. ahahaha

and all that work just to look like this creep:
