Think this cop may lose his job

Feel bad for the family.

I dont think he will lose his job. Its a clear case of mistaken identity. It sucks for the family, but just think if you were in the officers place chasing after 4 burglary suspects, then after following them through the yards you see someone standing there. He doesnt know if its one of the suspects trying to get into another house or something like that. Im sure he thought in his mind he had a reason to discharge his weapon, it is a shitty thing that happened.

Wow. Terrible.

they are going to get sooooo rich.

Could have come around the side of the house with the broom lookin like a rifle ??? Who knows sucks for the family though

If anyone remembers the last time a police officer mistakenly shot somebody it was on the Texas border and those guys went to jail. I wonder what kind of punishment this police officer will get.

He’ll certainly loose his job. They need to be 100% sure of who/why whenever they discharge a weapon, so shit like this does not happen.

I feel bad for the officer, who I’m sure thought he was in danger. :meh:

The burglars will also share the blame I’m sure.

really …what about the fact they lost someone ?

wow… sad

:frowning:

its over and done with now and he probably will lose his job, but it was a split second decision to shoot or tell the guy to put his hands in the air and he chose the wrong one =(

sucks for the family, only person that really knows the story is the cop who im sure will probably twist the story to protect himself if he did do wrong and was not really threatened

this lady is a living joke.

“I heard some noise on the roof, mine or the neighbors, I don’t know,” Kersch said.
“I have a feeling he was shouting at them,” Kersch said.

well bitch, either you heard someone on your roof or you didnt, its not hard to know if someone is walking on your house, i can never tell if someone is on the roof of the house next door to me unless i look out the window! either you heard him yell or you didnt, or you saw him yell. if not, why would you make that remark.

I still dont understand why he would have shot at him?

Imagine you are a police officer and you are chasing some juveniles and you run into someones yard. He is holding a broomstick, so you shoot him? I can understand that he may have thought it was a rifle, but they didnt mention that. And even so, if he thought it was a rifle and shot the guy, he is still guilty of man slaughter. What if one of us had done the same thing? Imagine you walk into someones back yard with a broom and you mistake it as a gun, so you shoot and kill him. Is that still alright?

they dont have anywhere on that article the point of view from the cop. so every piece of evidence that is on that article is against him pretty much

Exactly, if the cop isn’t explaining himself, I don’t see him being justified.

Though the media could just be biased and have left it out. Who knows.

hows the location of the house. good or bad neighbor hood. that can also justify the problem

only if sarah palin is his boss

Regardless of hearing the cops side or not, which you won’t because no attorney in his right mind would be allowing him to talk tot he press right now, I don’t see them ever calling this a good shoot.

The guy had a broom not a gun. Not a toy that looked like a gun, a damn broom. An officer chasing someone through private residential property has to be operating under the assumption that he may run into innocent civilians and need to be 100% sure of who he’s firing at. To make matters worse he was chasing burglary suspects, not some armed robbers, not some convicted murders… kids trying to steal TV’s.

Depending on the circumstances he could get off with just getting a desk job or could get jail time. Either way, it’s they gray area of policing where everyone reacts different. Sucks for both parties.
