Thomas Kreutzer? Is He On Here?

I spent a lot of time on the road and I understood how traffic ebbed and flowed in that same intuitive way that way someone who works on a river understands how a ripple on the otherwise smooth surface betrays the roiling currents in the depths below.

Your style reminds me a lot of Brock Yates before C&D let him go and I canceled my subscription when they replaced him with Aaron Robinson.

Thanks - I know the name, but don’t think I have ever really read anything by Brock Yates that I can remember. I think my favorite is Peter Eagan, I used to read a lot of his stuff in Cycle World. I’ve never really tried to sound like anyone on purpose, but I suppose if I read enough of a certain author I’d probably pick up their style.

To be honest, I think I overcook things a lot of the time. It makes for dense sentences that are difficult to read. Some people like that kind of writing, but it isn’t very accessable and it means close reading. That’s not fun, so what I struggle with is keeping the pretty, poetic bits like you’ve shown, and dumping the thick stuff. I hope I will get better at it with time.

Very sharp! Low mileage, love the color. The factory duals sound nice at idle, don’t they? Here’s mine, custom AL spacers and extended lugs to run Caliber SRT wheels.

Looking forward to the article :tspry:

The wheels make it look really different. I thought about doing something similar when I first got mine, but they really grew on me. I also like the spoiler and thought about adding one to mine, but you see more of them with the spoiler than you do without. I love the sound the car makes, too. It still surprises me that it a V6. I would love to see a twin turbo kit or something but it probably makes more than enough power for my needs.

Ever driven a Viggen? It would be worse than that.

There’s been some guys that have boosted the 3.5HO, but the weak link remains the transaxle. It would get sketchy but the engine’s in a north/south layout, so I wonder if that would mitigate the torque steer somewhat. (It’s easy to forget that it had only five less horsepower than the 4.6L Mustang GT of the same year). The car is a great long-distance tourer with an immense back seat and in Special guise, honest-to-God great handling for a FWD full-size car (and that’s coming from an Evo owner, too).

Anyway - love the car, love the writing, and I’m happy to see you on the boards. Hope you stick around!

Thanks. They just hit me with a travel ban so I doubt I will be getting out your way anytime before fall, but when I do we’ll need to line our 300s up together.

CRX’S had cable clutches.

So I have since heard. Totally my bad.

Haha, just busting your balls.

You and a million other people who caught that mistake…

You should have seen the grief I got for saying the Jag I raced had a 6 liter V8 - all I saw on the back of it was 6.0, how was I supposed to know it was a V12? It’s not like I’m around anything as cool as a Jag very often.

For anyone playing along, here’s Thom’s latest TTAC post. I enjoyed it.

Thanks for the support. It’s like I found a family on this website! The best part of that story are all of the great responses it generated.

I’m still working on my Chrysler story, too. I have a lot of it down, but I don’t like the way it is going so I think I will scrap it and start over. Right now it goes: “I thought this… I did this… I wanted this but I got this… yada, yada, yada.” I think its a good, interesting story, but the way I am telling it right now is boring. I have a better idea though and I’ll work on it tonight. maybe it will show up tomorrow or Friday.

I do most of this at night after I get home. With three little kids, 6 and under, and a wife who doesn’t speak much English everyone wants a piece of my time. They get priority (most of the time.)

that story with the money going to buying tools to become a telephone man was excellent!

That’s a great story…one I’m sure alot us here can (or at some point, will) relate to…

I got a little ahead of myself. The story about the 300 should be up in a little while.

<edit> Looks like they have enough for today. The article should be up tomorrow some time - which is fine by me, that’s when I planned it for.

My grandma had the same olds. The gas pedal was so sticky you could lock it in place on the highway as a pseudo cruise control, lol.

I had a motorcycle with a throttle like that. It was fine as long as you remembered to shut it off. It wasn’t going to close on its own…

Great article, Thom! I see your sister commented too, “Moss Boss” . Nearly all of the comments are very positive. Your writing style seems to really grab some heartstrings with the TTAC commentariat.

I also linked the 300M guys to your article as well:

PS: love the factory two-tone interior. I wanted that but settled for the all black, the car was hard to find for me too. Drove 200+ miles to get it in a snowstorm.
