Im sure we have all seen the advertisment for the new bar/resturant/lounge opening “winter 2013” on the chip strip. They are claiming to be changing the image of the strip of bars on chippewa im holding my breath on this one…
i believe the link below is where they got the concept from
Because the socioeconomic class of young males that could make this work, won’t want to deal with the bull shit of the area around Chippewa. They could be handing $100 bills out at the door and comping my meal. I wouldn’t want to deal with the crowds/riff raff around the area. It seems that every time I park around there, my car leaves with battle wounds.
that is exactly my thought, i posted somethign similar on one of their photos and they fired back at me saying how chip is changing look at the other "nice"resturants on chip …ok soho blows and the only reason papya is doing well is becuase its attached to a god damn hotel.

sorry but after creeping their facebook page i think that around the price they will be charging, like beck said peopel who have money wont want to go deal with bums and puddles of vomit to go there. I will try it out but judging from their sample menu items i wont be able to afford to go there a ton.

No interest in going down there. When I was 18, I loved going there, then I grew up and realized I would like to limit my chances of getting shot/stabbed.
yea i dont think its that dangerous, but when there is an incident down there it will be all over the news and deter the older folks with cash from even coming down there more than ever.
The issue in Buffalo is every 30k millionaire is getting bottle service and thinks a place is “upscale”
People have tried multiple times to have upscale bars the issue is having every bar make the flip all at once…People won’t go down there to an upscale place to have to walk over people fighting in the streets etc.
Most cities who fix this issue start building up a new area and keep away shitty bars
It’s easy to say it’s not dangerous when you haven’t been down there to see someone get stabbed or heard gunshots behind you as you are walking down the street. I worked down there for a few years, I have had my fair share of that place.
Chippewa screams high class about as much as cruise night should be affiliated with anything “elegant”
I’ve lost count of how many Buffalo restaurant / bar owners have said they’re establishment will change images / perceptions / class levels / elegance / “sexy” / etc.
The only people who fall for this are the 30k millionaires who haven’t been around long enough to know it’s just marketing BS.
I actually misspoke there are people with “money” who go down there its usually guys between 40-60 who blow coke and try to fuck 18 year old girls.
Elmwood area bars are doing a much better job of having an upscale image with out as much BS the issue there is everything is spread out.
If you look at cities like Louisville and Omaha they both decided to rebuild their downtown. They picked a few block radius and got shops, restaurants, apartments, etc to build up made it nice and got people who actual jobs to move in and make it their home.
What you did there, I see it! On a side note, Bacchus was actually really nice when me and the lady went there, nice and calm. Totally different from the usual Chippewa scene but granted it’s an actual nice restaurant with the prices reflecting that.
Chippewa is fucking awful. My view may be biased being from right outside NYC, but coming up here for school and seeing that as one of the areas known for bars clubs etc… sad. “Well, it is Buffalo” was the excuse I gave it.
The other problem with downtown Buffalo is every time a place starts good ratio-wise, it gets dark very quickly and they run for the hills. It’s re-happening to Toro now. Where da white women at?
If this was a ways up Elmwood or down by Pearl St, or near the rink I think it would do what they want. I keep walking down the “Cobblestone” district next to First Niagara and thinking something upscale needs to start developing over there. So much red brick property to rehab, lunch specials for the polo shirt fggts working down there, and such.
Up past my building is a fucking ghost town at 5:01 PM unless there’s a Sabres game or the harbor concerts. Canal Side is supposed to be the big push but they need like 4-5 good places to open at once to have a shot. Lagerhaus is over on an island over there. The new comedy club is a good start. The waterfront places kick ass in the summer and then it’s cold as fuck down there in the winter.
Canal side and the cobblestone area in a couple of years is going to be the trendy new hot spot that hopefully sticks. Chippewa is on the downwards spiral (has always been since I remember) and the only way to make money there is by serving underage kids and try to make as much money as possible in a shitty looking parcel that barely any money is put into, then shut down 2 or 3 years later due to fines and the place turning to shit.
I cant wait till the waterfront/arena area starts to take off, and unlike most things in buffalo, this is actually going to happen in our lifetime
