So I guess this is the “8 wire down on the left #32 in the computer (yellow/green strip)” wire?
Why the check engine light? On an S13 I presume? If that is the case, that would justify switching it for me.
And last but not least, the 5th gear 5,000 RPM limiter. Would this not cap your speed once you hit 5000 RPM’s in fifth? Or is this actually what is eliminated by chopping the wire?
for some reason i keep thinking that the speed limiter/rev limiter is the same damn thing, cause i got pics of my speedo going just beyond 180 which is exactly 5000rpm, but yeah im gonna try put a switch on it, and when you rev your engine with the switch off, make sure it doesn over rev and blow up lol
Stock KA is supposed to cut around 177KM/H and its a fule cut, unhooking the 5th gear speed sensor will stop this from happening. You loose not fule economey or anything by doing it other then the speed limiter.
OKAY it doesnt work, here i break it down for you how to do it properly
idea: remove the speed limiter
obstacle: ecu will keep cutting fuel until you block the following, speed sensor, right on the tranny, 5th gear rev limiter, 5th gear tach reading, gear identification sensor
I put a switch on the following things and achieved thus:
tranny speed sensor (big fat one on the tranny nearest the driveshaft)
achieved: speedo shuts off when i flick the switch
tranny 5th gear rev limiter (one of the sensor on the side of the tranny)
achieved: bypasses 5th gear rev limiter
so far: speed limiter is still there
solution:
make sure the ecu nor the tach can read the rpm
make sure the ecu does not know what gear you are in
you have to do all of these things, failing to disconnect all of them, even if you disconnect all besides one, you WILL hit the speed limiter
all in all, do all these:
1.switch on the tranny speed sensor
2.switch on the 5th gear rev limiter
3.switch on the tach rpm reading from tranny
4.switch on the gear position sensor
im my opionion all the money for switches and wire and time and screwing around for 50 bucks you can buy a greddy speed cut defender and call it a day with a nice clean install.
Are these available anywhere locally? You have one?[/quote]
you can get the pivot speed meter at the pacific mall for around 100 bucks which does the same thing, but also displays a digital readout of your speed (acurate speed)

i only spent about 10 dollars, 5 dollars on a switch, 5 dollars on wire, dont forget that at electronic supply stores u can get one switch that swtiches 5 things
