hey guys my speed limiter kicked in a few times at track of course and i want to figure out how to disable it but so far i havent been successfull so if anyone knows which wire to cut (or put a switch on it) and where let me know, help greatly appreciated
Hey… I have been on this for the last hour or so myself.
I’m trying to figure out how to disconnect the 180km limiter on the SR.
I have been told the KA has a 4th and 5th gear sensor. You can unhook the 5th and the car will then go past 180. However it seems the SR does not have a 5th gear sensor. Just a Neutral Sensor, Speed Sensor and Reverese Lamps.
Could the Neutral Sensor possible also send a signal when in 5th gear to cut fuel @ 180?
Easy way would to just unplug the Speed Sensor Correct ? but then no speedo ? lol
hey man, good thinking there, what do you mean by 4th and 5th gear sensor, which sensor, what does it do, and where is it located, you need a variable to begin with to solve an equation, so if you explain to me what these sensors do/how they do it/and their location, i think i can help you out =) let me know…
cut the speedo wire going into the ecu and see what that does. Only thing I can think it might do is give you a high idle all the time
i figured some of this out, look at this http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/spdgov.htm
dont cut the sensor, but throw a switch in and mount it somewhere. that way if you do have any unusual problems, you can reconnect it, but when your WOT tryin to hit past 180, flip the switch and go go go!
I converted my car to manual and the only switches that are connected are the reverse and speed sensor . All other sensor are left disconnected , no code or engine light is on . NO speed limiter either . The 5th gear sensor should be the last plug at the back of the speed sensor .
^^^ Isn’t that the case because you are using an auto ECU, which has no limiter?
And for the manual S13’s, aren’t their 2 limiters? A 190-ish fuel cut and a 5th gear 5000 RPM limiter (rev your car in 5th gear with the clutch in, at a stop)?
most people pull out the 4th and 5th gear sensors.
that way if you do hit limiter in 4th (which is possible, you dont get screwed) and then there is no 5000 limit once 5th gear sensor is disabled
yet again, do it with switches, dont just cut!
greddy speed cut defender.
apexi rev speed meter
I used the A’PEXi Rev/speed meter on my talon back in the day. It’ll kill you rev and speed limiters. Very easy to use and hook up.
well for those of us less fortunate, the cutting wires and installing switches is teh sh1t, so i assume theres 2 wires that go to every sensor, i take i put 2 switches one for fourth and one for fifth, that way speed limiter in 4th dont work nor rev limiter in 5th, would this kill both 190ish fuel cut off and 5k rev limit in 5th ? oh and btw, would this kill my speedo/tach in 4th/5th gears ?

after a bit of experimenting, i think theres only 1 speed limiter, the 5000rpm in 5th gear, that is the 190km/h limit, in fourth, its just a normal rev limiter just like 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. Im only gonna screw with the 5th gear, I think theres a rev limiter for a reason, id ont want my engine to go kaboom while im spinning my tires lol
Do it. Test it. Keep us up to date!
When you get a chance to test the car with just the 5th gear sensor off the tranny cut/switched, let us all know:
- If/how well it works
- How fast you can get the car
- If the “190-ish” limiter still kicks in
- Your car’s year/ECU/tranny type/other details
- If you’re noticing any side effects
Why is this subject so mysterious…a few other people “trying” to touch on it:

Everyone talks like they definitively know the answer, and then someone else says “NO!” or “That way doesn’t work!” or “There are side effects…” or “Only for coupe/hatch/analog/digital/auto/manual” etc etc…
Oh, someone end the madness.
It’s so weird I don’t think any of these combinations work.
We did a manual swap on Ty’s car and he has a 180km/h limiter
Now he has an SR and he has a 180km/h limiter
both of which are probobly good things for that guy
My white SR had no speed limiter, but my black car does (that was NOT a good thing.)
I for seriously want to know what is up. Every combination that has been reccomended I have seen be true and not true as far as speed cut goes.
What about running the speedometer wire directly to the speedo from the speed sensor, without first wiring it into the car? Will the speed still read correctly does anyone know? Or does the ecu alter the signal
the wiring goes from the speed sensor > speedo > ecu
you cut the speed wire going from the speedo > ecu and it will remove your limiter ive done this but it makes the check engine light come on which is a bs light anyways
is that the only “negative” repercussion whatsoever?
yup
ive hit it in 3rd gear, so the switch thing is rediculous…unless you want switches all over your car…
Cutting one wire seems to be the way to go - or if you like switches, put a switch on it
