TimeWarner vs. Verizon FIOS - School me, please

if you go back and build the services you want again you will notice links in the tv an internet categories that say “change my plan.” There you can change from 20/5 to 10/5 or 50/20. You can also change from the extreme hd or whatever to essentials.

Personally if i’m going to lock into TW or Verizon i will probably go TW. Verizon will cost me more than 100 dollars a month for tv and internet before cost of equipment. TW will cost me around 90 after equipment if i do their price advantage thing for two years. I “rent” 1 of TW’s HD DVR box’s and have my own cable modem. I personally can’t justify more HD channels and faster internet for 20-30 more a month.

Pumice I can’t really be of any further input beyond this post. The tools to get a quote, every detail that I’ve posted, and even equipment specs & 1000s of reviews can be had online.

That being said, no promos or the like, also not including any final fee / FCC surcharges, etc:

Lots of things going on behind the scene with tw… You’ll wake up tomorrow with 5 more HD channels… Couple more weeks they’ll be another 5 and around january, there will be 40+ added to the current lineup. So should put tw around 60 HDs by feb.

Looks like VZW held up fine in the great state of texas during Ike.

I doubt the landlines are doing as well…

I realize when the wired infrastructure is compromised, wireless would be more reliable, but when in “healthy” condition, wired gives me a consistent signal of 100%.

sweet, glad to see more HD channels… had fios for awhile and love it, cant wait to get tv in the first week of OCT :)… priority list FTW

I STILL CAN’T FUCKING GET FIOS … ugh… why is it that everyone else in west seneca can seem to get it except my street… :frowning: i want to drop time warner so bad but can’t until Fios is available

getting it soon here, laying the fiber as we speak, cant wait.

Father in WS getting it within the week also

oooo a whole 60

so anyone else in amherst near bailey/eggert?

im on the phone with a verizon rep just pricing everything out and she is telling me fios TV IS available for me.

edit ~ just checked online. also showing TV is now available in my neighborhood

You have the all the best package.

10/1 RR Standard

So, 20/5 would be quite an improvement.

TW Blows in Rochester, at least in Buffalo 10/1 is standard…Not in Greece though, 10/385k and hardcore network management. Hoping the FIOS rollout will force them to bump their network up, and leave my damn torrents alone.

haha that sucks, i was a beta tester for roadrunner in rochester in the 90’s, i loved it, cap free, so fucking fast.

sucks they went down hill

more TW HD available today: “Available now, subscribers in the region can view NHL Network HD (729), History Channel HD (744), Disney Channel HD (750), Lifetime Movie Network HD (751) and HGTV HD (715).”

you end up goin for it?

im moving right near there and cant decide who to go with

ill bet ya that fios still has cbs…/thread

I made an appointment to have Fios installed. 25 day waiting list. Fuck.

I hear a lot of good things about it. Time Warner is going to have to have one hell of an offer when I call to cancel to keep me with them. I’ve liked their service thus far (except some probs with the internet) but Fios seems cheaper and more reliable.

no.

  1. they never called me back after i made an appointment with them to do so.
  2. im waiting for geoff to get his fios tv installed in i think early november. then i’ll make my decision.

i have no real need for insane internet speeds so i just want to see how tv is. im good with tw for right now. my bill is only 107 a month and i don’t think fios will be much less than that for first year before being charged for the equipment.

in all seriousness time warner internet (10mb) is not bad at all for the average user. Free HD channels are nice(and they give you mostly the good ones, like sports and discovery). When FiOS is available in my area (NT) we’ll definitely look into it though.
