what would the going rate for a timing belt replacement be on a 98ish hyndai sonata
rough estimate ??

this is for a AAA typical shop

typical dealer rate $70/hr?
4 cyl = 3.1 hrs plus parts
V6 =3.3 hrs plus parts
roughly $217-231 the parts are typically anywhere from $30 to $60 for the belt

Next question did the belt break?
could not find a price for parts

$300 - $400, but I’ve seen some shops rape people on timing belts. Did the belt break? I’m not sure if that’s an interference engine or not.

i dont know 100 % yet just trying to help a friend by giving a rough estimate on what opther ppl have experienced… thanks… and i dont think it is an interference type engine

cost of parts plus 50 shop labor fee= 285, according to consumer info. recall on the 95-98 body style gas tanks. may want that looked at.

motors are interference. iirc uses a 2.0 16v motor. same motor a n/a dsm. or that may have ended in 94 and the 95-98 is their own motor…
