tire choices

i have a 92 talon tsi awd. i have 17x7 inch rims and i was just looking for some tires, they will not be in the snow so i want some high performance summer tires. right now i really want the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 i’m looking at 2 different sizes and was just wondering what you would recommend, there is only a $60 difference (prices from tire rack)
215/40ZR17 costs 109 a piece
225/45ZR17 costs 123 a piece
also if anyone can recommend any tires that they have used and believe are better and are in the same price range let me know. thanks

Others to consider:

Kumho MXs:

Falken Azenis RT-615s:

Hankook Z212s:

Performance wise they are all on the same level. For some reason I thought the Azenis were a little lower in price. The price winner is the Kumho.

^^^^^^ yea

Might find better pricing on http://www.edgeracing.com/tires/2254517/

For some of the tires listed above in 225/45:

2Z212 $99.00

RT-615 = $112.00

~$20 or more cheaper per tire.

I’d personally stay away from the MXs, that’s just my opinion. Never had a good experience with anything Kuhmo outside of their R-compound/race tires. Bang for the buck, the Hankooks are hard to beat.

i do like the kumho and azenis, but the price ranges are close and i want the best i can get for around that price, the g-force’s have better ratings on tire rack and better tread wear then the kumho’s. you still like the kumhos, i mostly want these tires to be good for autocross

Well for what it’s worth, all the autocross guys swear by the Hankooks and the Falkens. Nobody runs the BFs. Just :fyi:

ok, i think you just changed my mind to the falkens, with the 200 tread wear, how fast do you think that i will wear through it, i will auto-x everyonce and a while and i drive my car kinda hard.

Then just look at the national results for STS. Kumho MXs were king for a few years, while this last year Falkens have taken over. The only other tire is the freak 240sx (but this car is the exception, not the rule) that did have the Bridgestones and a scatter of Hankooks and Yokohamas.

Totally depends. Could last 2 seasons. Could last 1 season. Depends on how you drive.

I would guestimate somewhere in the middle.

ok well edge racing is cheaper but has $50 shipping and they are out of stock. discount tire has them in ohio and is free shipping. so i will go to discount, thanks for the input i’m definetely going with the azenis now.

since this is a tire related thread i’ll ask about my question too. I’m in need of some serous traction for next year. I have 2 options. take my slicers (16"X6") get some 225 50 or 55 slicks for the track and buy a second set of tires to mount on my ungodly heavy 17"s (30lbs + each at least) for the street. or the option I much prefer. buy a set of rims from SHOnutperformance.com they are 16X8’s and weigh 15lbs each. I can also get 13" brakes under them.

For tire size I would be running 255/50/16 if I get those rims. what is a really agressive tire that will last one season, probably 2 roadcourse sessions too.

The long lasters (shave to 4/32nds)
Toyo RA-1
Kumho Victoracers (I think they are phasing out V700s)
Hankook Z212s in C30 compound

The go fasters (they take a skilled foot to get a long life out of them)
Hoosier R3S06 (04s and 05s are on sale @ hoosiertire.com)
Kumho V710s
Hankaook Z214s

Or do what I do, buy them so cheap it doesn’t matter if they last for two track days…

I would really see if this guy still has these…
