Tire Size Question

Alright, I’ve got 205/55/15’s on my tiburon right now and definatly need snow tires, but I don’t have money for 4 of them. My rear tires are all-seasons with good tread on them so I just want to buy winter tires. What would the effects be if I put 185/65/15’s on the front with the 205/55/15’s on the back?? 185’s are the thinnist I can mount on my wheels and I want a thin tire so I don’t get stuck like I did yesterday morning. I’m planning on going with some winterforce tires for the front.

.55205=112.75cm sidewall
.85
185=120.25cm sidewall

The front end will be higher. Your speedo will be inaccurate. I dunno, I probably wouldn’t do it but those things aren’t that bad in comparison to not having traction. You might be switching your car to oversteer by having snows in front and not in back, but then again maybe not. I dunno, I don’t like the idea of it but maybe some of the other resident experts here can give you an opinion?..

Getting just 2 snow tires is kind of pointless. It completely defeats the purpose of snowtires. Now your car will want to spin out any time you go around a turn because the front tires will have so much more traction.

agreed, especially with how cheap the winterforce tires are.

just get a better car with the money saved.

^^^I wish I could. I should be ok with the rear ones since they are some good all-seasons with plenty of tread. We’ll see, if it sucks I’ll get 2 more.

Just be EXTREMELY careful around turns. You’re front tires are gonna have about double the traction your rear tires will have in the snow, even if they are the best all seasons you can get. And the car WILL want to rotate because of this. And with a FWD car it’ll be very hard to recover from it. Not like an AWD where you can manipulate the throttle to save.

I don’t want to see anyone get hurt in order to save some franklins.
