Tires, tires, tires.

So my bike (CBR 600RR) came with track take-offs and I’m starting to notice the ever-increasing flat spot from street riding, and the handling is beginning to suffer.

I’ve got a few questions about getting new rubber on the bike.

  • General tire recommendations are welcome (I know Will is adamant about a specific tire but I can’t remember which)
  • Are those dual-compound tires (harder in the middle, softer on the edges) worth the extra coin from a wear standpoint?
  • Where to purchase [online]?
  • Where to get mounted? (I’m assuming I’ll remove the wheels first to save some money there)

There’s probably a thread like this, but every time I try and search this subforum I get a 500 internal server error… :uhh:

Michelin Pilot Power 2ct

Dismount urself, I can help ya

is the center compound of the 2ct harder than the compound of the non-2ct?

or am I just gaining softness on the sides?

I guess I’m getting at whether the 2ct is geared towards longer life, or stickier sides…

If it’s no harder than the normal pilot power I’ll probably go non-2ct, as I’m upright most of the time and not really pushing this thing. But if it’s harder and will increase life, spending the extra might be worth it.

iirc I think the 2ct has softer compound on the sides for better cornering grip, I use regular powers cuz I don’t push the bike hard either. I’d say for your application to get regular Pilot Powers, they are bar none the best tires for the money. One of those sites has free shipping btw, Ryan (ieatpaint) told me about them, I picked my rear up
for dirt cheap and they’re fast too

www.sportbiketrackgear.com

^thats the site, couldn’t remember lol

I’m currently running

  • 120/70/17 front
  • 190/60/17 rear

Doesn’t look like Michelin makes a 190/60, only 190/55. Is the profile going to be noticeably weird with that width/sidewall combo?

Technically you should be using the 180/55/17 because you have a 5.5" rim, but sportbiketrackgear.com has 1-day shipping to WNY for free so I would go with them.

I like the thought of wider meats though…

Of course you do…:mamoru:

Don’t buy a 190…ask me why lol

why

God I hate that.

Since I only commute on mine, the flat spot on my last tire was terrible.
My current tire is suffering the same fate :frowning:

I’M NOT TELLING YOUUUU!

Actually, Freewheeling mistakenly put a 190 on my rear, and it’s considerably noticeable compared to Tim’s 180 rear, plus cornering suffers with a wider tire

If you don’t plan on pushing the bike too much at all for the rest of the season, just get a pilot Road. It will last for like 7k miles. May not handle as well, but will still be enjoyable and not develop a flat spot nearly as fast.

Can’t say enough about PP’s.

I usually used track take-offs though. Can’t beat them for the price even though they don’t last as long…

Yes and 190/60 FTW, but you have a 5.5" wheel on a 600, so you should use a 180/55. A wider tire won’t be more stable or comfortable.

Thanks for the help guys

I think i’ll go with pilot powers 180/55 and 120/70 for $254 shipped…

I could never corner as well as when I installed PP2ct.

Get them.
